The new project in 2020 from winemaker Wells Guthrie with the release of 2018 Estate, Wendling, Abel, Village Pinot Noirs, Baker Ranch Syrah and 2019 Ferrington Chardonnay.
Guthrie began his winemaking career in the Northern Rhone Valley where he worked for two years at Chapoutier, then following stints in Burgundy with Frederic Mugnier and Domaine Dujac. It was in Burgundy that he picked up the nickname "Puis", meaning "well" or "wells" in Old French. Upon returning to California, he worked under Ehren Jordan and Helen Turley. In 1999, he founded Copain Wines and spent two decades there as owner and winemaker.
DuPois Wines is a small estate winery in Anderson Valley. In 2019, Guthrie bought a 40-acre mountain estate high above Boonville where he is building a small winery and tending to seven acres of Pinot Noir. All wines are sourced from Anderson Valley vineyards.
The wines are sold through a mailing list.
