Golden Cluster is a family of brands launched in 2013 by Jeff Vejr. Jeff became enthralled by old-vine Semillon, Syllvaner and Chasselas at David Hill Winery. The name of the winery pays respect to Charles Coury and honors his vision. He chose the name Golden Cluster since Semillon is known as the "golden" grape.
Jeff was able to source not only the Semillon but old vine Pinot Noir, Savagnin Rose, Flora and Gewurztraminer.
The brands include "Coury," "Olmo," and "The First Row," depending on the source of the grapes. All of the wines are made from the Charles Coury Vineyard, now called the David Hill Vineyard planted in 1966.
In special vintages, Jeff made wine from the first rows of vines that Coury planted. The first row of this planting consisted of six grape varieties. The row is also referred to as the "scion row" since it was the source of cuttings that helped establish the Coury Nursery which sold rooted vines to many of the foundation vineyards of the Willamette Valley in the 1970s.
The wines are vinified at the historic David Hill Winery but there is no affiliation.
