Adelaida Cellars

Founded in 1981, this historic property with the HMR Estate Pinot Noir Vineyard was acquired by the Van Steenwyk family in 1991 and restored to its former glory. The winery and vineyards are located in the western, cooler reaches of Paso Robles at 5805 Adelaida Rd. 164 acres under vine, production 15,000 cases.

The HMR vineyard sits more than 1,700 feet above sea level, 16 miles from the Pacific, and is the oldest vineyard planted to Pinot Noir in San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara counties (along with Nielson Vineyard), having been established in 1964 by Central Coast wine pioneer Dr. Stanley Hoffman.

The winemaker is Jeremy Weintraub who studied viticulture and enology at both Fresno State and UC Davis. He worked at Tenuta Tignagnello in Italy, Central Otago and Martinborough in New Zealand, and at wineries in Long Island, New York. Most recently, he was the winemaker for Seavey Vineyard in Napa.

The winery's tasting room is open daily at 5805 Adelaida Road on the west side of Paso Robles. Pinot Noir has improved steadily in recent years.
