The Bogle family has been farming in California since the mid 1800s, but it wasn’t until 1968 that father and son, Warren and Chris Bogle, planted wine grapes in Clarksburg, California, 14 miles south of Sacramento in Yolo County along the Sacramento River. Today Bogle farms over 1,200 acres in the Sacramento Delta region.
The winery was established in 1979. Patty Bogle took over operation of the winery in 1989 and her husband Chris ran the company's agricultural program until he died in 1997. Chris and Patti Bogle met while students at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. Their son, Warren Jr., took over as the company's vineyard manager and became president in 2002. A daughter is secretary of the board of directors, and the youngest son, Ryan Bogle, is vice president. Patty Bogle died in 2011 from leukemia.
Initially the Bogles sold their grapes but in 1979, they began producing 4,000 cases annually. Today, they ship more than 1.2 million cases of wine and operate production facilities in Clarksburg and throughout Northern California. The were ranked as the country's 14th-largest winery in 2011.
Bogle is better known for several varietals other than Pinot Noir and is probably the largest California producer of Petite Sirah. Beginning with the 2003 vintage, they have hit the mark with value-priced Russian River Valley Pinot Noir in some vintages. There is widespread retail distribution of this value-play Pinot Noir.

Moderately light garnet
color in the glass. Black cherry aroma infused with baking
spices and a hint of toasty oak. Flavors of darkest cherry and
black raspberry in a light to mid-weight style with a dusting of
oak in the background. Silky tannins and easygoing, with a
juicy, cherry-fueled finish. Excellent value.

2018 Juggernaut Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Produced and bottled by Juggernaut Wine Co, Clarksburg, CA
(part of the Bogle Family). Released June 2020. Very attractive
label and very heavy bottle. Aged 12 months in both new and
used French oak barrels.

Moderately light garnet color in the
glass. Pleasant but very demure aroma of black cherry and a
hint of toasty oak. Much better on the palate, with mid-weight,
flavors of black cherry, raspberry and cola backed by soft
tannins. There is a little too much oak in the background most
evident on the somewhat lengthy finish. Best when first opened
but the nose never really comes alive. I prefer the much less
expensive Bogle California Pinot Noir produced by the same
company.

2013 Bogle Vineyards California Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., $8.99. This winery in Clarksburg consistently offers
value for the price.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and
floral bouquet hold up over time in the glass. A middleweight mix of black cherry, darker berry and plum flavors
are framed by integrated tannins. Nicely balanced with a modest finish that has the slightest warmth. When
tasted several hours later, the fruit had faded a bit and the oak had come to the forefront. A good value wine
that should be drunk young.

December 2014. Grapes were sourced from Russian River Valley, Monterey hills, and Clarksburg
Delta. Aged 10 months in French and American oak.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass.
Highly aromatic, with scents of black cherry, black raspberry, spice, rose and vanilla persisting over
time in the glass. Plenty of tasty dark berry and dark stone fruit accented with spice and vanilla
from complimentary oak. The broad-shouldered tannins are well matched to the fruit load, making
the wine easy to drink. This wine will stand up to substantial, hearty foods. It reminds me of the
highly popular Meiomi California Pinot Noir in style and flavor. A crazy value. I challenge you to find a better
California Pinot Noir at this price! Widely distributed.

glass. Pleasant aromas of cherries, baking spice and oak. A solid wine with modestly intense flavors of oak-kissed
cherry and cranberry backed by balanced dry tannins. Easy to drink with a spark of acidity on the finish.

Clarksburg, CA producing multiple varietals from its Delta vineyards, but
having a good track record with value priced Pinot Noir as well. Aged 12
months in French and American oak.

A pretty solid wine for the fare
featuring a rich core of black cherry and black raspberry fruit with
underpinnings of exotic spices, dark chocolate, and smoke. The tannins are
restrained and the finish is pleasingly fruity albeit a touch hot. Widely distributed.

This was one of my highest scoring Pinot Noirs. The aromas of
raspberries, cherries, roses, and a hint of oak are voluptuous. Mixed berry and black cherry fruit are racy
and sexy. The soft texture is Elvis on velvet. The tannins are soft and coating and the finish is clean and
bright. A complete wine that sings with food. It is almost impossible to find Pinot Noir of this quality at this
price point. Stock up.
