Proprietor and winemaker Robert (Bob) Klindt is an Anderson Valley veteran of many vintages. He produces two Claudia Springs Pinot Noirs primarily from his estate 10-acre Klindt Vineyard (a Mendocino County appellation, a Klindt Vineyard Pinot Noir and in some years, a Klindt Vineyard Reserve) and is also the winemaker for Harmonique also in the Anderson Valley. His wines are crafted from a small, non glamorous winery underneath his house. His Pinot Noirs age very well.
A small tasting room is located in Philo on Highway 128 next to Floodgate Store. Bob and Claudia are very personable and avail yourself of any opportunity to meet them.
Bob retired and discontinued his label in about 2014.

fermentation and natural malolactic fermentation. Aged 7 months in French oak barrels after blending.

Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. A very appealing wine with bright aromas of cherries, strawberries,
rose petals, spice and sandalwood. Mid weight flavors of cherries, baking spices and savory herbs, finishing
long and generous. Very well crafted and beautifully balanced. Very good (+).

2009 Claudia Springs Klindt Vineyard Estate Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
14.3% alc., pH 3.70, TA 0.61, 245 cases, #32. Released May 21, 2011. The
8.25-acre Klindt Vineyard is in the deep end of the Anderson Valley and
planted to 35% Pommard 4 and 5, 20% each of 113, 115, 777, and 667 filling
in the remainder. 10% whole cluster. Native fermentation lasting 12 days. All
clones fermented separately, blended the following summer and put back into
barrels to marry for another 7 months before bottling.

Moderately light reddishpurple
color and clear in the glass. Lovely scent of fresh red cherries and
Asian 5-spice. Bright and juicy on the palate, featuring an elegant array of red
Pinot fruits, supple tannins and a long finish with a refreshing nerve of acidity.
Very good (+).

Medium weight flavors of red cherries with savory herbs and oak in the background. This bottle not showing as well as one reviewed last year. Good.

2007 Claudia Springs Estate Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
14.4% alc., pH 3.59, 372 cases, $28. To be released in the
winter of 2010. Klindt Vineyard is at the extreme western end
of the Anderson Valley. Planted in 1998 in heavy clay loam
over fractured rock and consisting of 8.5 acres of Pinot Noir
and 2 acres of Pinot Gris. 35% Pommard clones 4 and 5, 20%
each Dijon clone 115 and 113, and small amounts of 667 and 777. Aged in
25% new French oak barrels. Winemaker Bob Klindt.

Moderate garnet color in
the glass. Very charming cherry blossom fruit perfume with brown spice.
Bright and juicy cherry bombast with gossamer tannins and admirable
persistence on the finish. An impressively crafted and seductive wine,
possessing a perfect balance of ripe fruit, vital acidity and refined tannins. Unbelievable quality at this price
point. The best Pinot Noir I have every sampled from this top end Anderson Valley producer.

wine tasted briefly at the Grand Tasting. Fine texture, integrated tannins and a
lively acidity on the finish. Bob’s wines are built for the long haul - I had a 1996 vintage of this wine
at lunch at the event on Friday and it was startling fresh and tasty.

Like an honest reserve bottling, this is a step up. Deep on the palate and
packed with sweet cherry fruit, my brief taste left a lasting impression. A wine
to fawn over.

2006 Claudia Springs Winery Klindt Reserve Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

alc, 223 cases, $35. Released May 2009. The six clones are picked and fermented
separately. After aging for 8 months in barrel, an initial blend is made from these lots
and returned to barrel for an additional 8-10 months. Aged in 40% new French oak
barrels. Of the 32 barrels in the cellar, 9 were chose for the Reserve blend at the end
of aging.

The nose is very pleasing showing cherries, cola, oak spice and a hint of
alcohol. Tasty core of cherry and cranberry fruit with mild ripe tannins and good grip
leading to a dry and refreshing finish. Reasonably priced and a good food wine.
