From Mayro-Murdick Wines. The Vinco vineyard where Hunterdon was grown is located due west of the town of Gonzalez on top of a knoll overlooking the Gonzalez River and the fertile fields stretching out to Highway 101 in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The soils are well drained and the exposure is such that the vineyard gets the benefits of the cool morning sun while moderately protected from afternoon sun. The vines were planted in the mid 1970's and are on their own roots. These ungrafted vines, rich with history, result in a pure expression of Pinot Noir. An inexpensive daily drinker. May be purchased online.

2006 Hunterdon Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

13.5% alc., $16. From Mayro- Murdick Wines. · Very light in color, close to some rosés. A light, simple wine featuring red fruits, particularly wild strawberries, and enhanced by fresh herb flavors. Basically a full-bodied Pinot Noir rosé. The wine is not as substantial as the 2005 version, but would be perfectly fine serve slightly chilled with grilled salmon. Reviewed May 7, 2008 ARTICLE »
