Matetic Vineyards

The story of the Matetic Winery begins in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world of wine, confident in the virtues of the climate and soils in the Rosario Valley of Chile. With a firm conviction in the vital importance of maintaining a strong professional team to guide every step of the project, the family incorporated Alan York (Biodynamic Consultant), Ken Bernards (Consulting Winemaker, Ancien), and Ann Kraemer (Viticultural Consultant) into the project in 2000 to ensure that Matetic wines achieve the highest quality. A winery was added in 2004. Rodrigo Soto was on the on-site winemaker, left direct winemaking at Benziger in Sonoma Valley, and returned to Matetic in 2011.

Matetic is located in central Chile amid the eucalyptus forests of San Antonio with a close proximity to the Pacific Ocean. As of 2012, Matetic had six parcels of Pinot Noir and even more Syrah in Rosario. The Pinot Noirs have not fully distinguished themselves, but its Syrahs are perennially among the best from Chile. Its EG Sauvignon Blanc is also a quality leader. Total production is under 14,000 cases.
