August Kesseler assumed control of the family Assmannshausen estate in 1977. He farms about 45 acres of well-positioned vineyards on the right side of the Rhine between Wiesbaden and Mittelrhein in the Rheingau region. Kesseler is one of the few Germans to export his Pinot Noirs to the United States.
Kesseler's Pinot Noirs are among Germany's best, sensibly-priced, and worth a try if you see them.
2004 August Kessler Spätburgunder Rheingau Germany Pinot Noir
13.5% alc.. Imported by Presser Wine Co, Richmond, CA. · Aromas of new-mown hay, farmyard and grass. Very light raspberry and strawberry flavors with an edible flower overtone. A bit woody, sour and tart with an astringent finish. An acquired taste! Reviewed May 7, 2008 ARTICLE »
