Domaine Alfred

Domaine Alfred is a 131-acre property located in the Edna Valley of the Central Coast, is one of California's leading producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Vines were first planted in Domaine Alfred's Chamisal Vineyard in 1972, but the property was dormant until bought by entrepreneur Terry Spizer in 1994. Speizer first replanted in 1996 and the property currently consists of 38 acres of Pinot Noir, 22 acres of Chardonnay, 11 acres of Syrah and a little bit of Grenache and Pinot Gris. Farming is biodynamic.

In August, 2008, it was announced that the winery was sold to Crimson Wine Group, owners of Pine Ridge in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, Archery Summit in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, and Double Canyon Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA of Washington state. Domaine Alfred was changed in name to Chamisal Vineyards & Winery.

Winemaker Fin du Fresne, who came to Domaine Alfred in 2006 to replace Mike Sinor, has remained with the winery.

The wines are sold on the website, through the tasting room, and through retail distribution. Two Pinot Noirs have been produced: an Edna Valley Chamisal Vineyard Estate and a Chamisal Vineyards Califa which is a reserve wine. The quaint tasting room at 7525 Orcutt Rd in San Luis Obispo is open daily from 10-5. 805-541-9463.
