This is a small family run vineyard and winery specializing in Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Co-vintners Randy and Kim Coleman are transplants from Southern California. The estate vineyard is planted to Pommard and Dijon 114 and 115 clones and dates to 1991. Located in the foothills of McMinnville (McMinnville sub-AVA), the vineyard consists of 13.5 acres of Pinot Noir and 9 acres of Pinot Gris. Located close to the Van Duzer corridor, the area benefits from hot summer days and cooling afternoon winds. Farming is sustainable and yields are strictly limited.
The winery is open by appointment and on Thanksgiving and Memorial Day Open House Weekends. 503-843-2707. The wines are sold primarily on the website and to Coleman Cellar Club members.
2006 Coleman Vineyard Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
14.1% alc., $25. From a family owned vineyard in the Van Duzer corridor. · Shy cherry and berry scents pick up some intensity in the glass. The fruit is shy in the mouth as well. Very light and simple with unresolved tannins and a dry finish. I would sit on this one for another year, but it doesn’t seem to match up to its brethren in the Willamette Valley.
