This winery specializes in making very small quantities of handcrafted custom wine. "Handcrafted" means that each lot of wine is micro-monitored and fermented in single French oak barrels. Yields never exceed 25 cases of wine per barrel.
The wines are all from single vineyards because of the belief that high quality grapes come from ecologically balanced vineyards of superlative pedigree. The focus is on sustainable California vineyards. Winemaking is traditional with minimal intervention in order to coax the unique virtues of the grape to wine.
The first release of 2007 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from the Bohemian Vineyard will be in early 2009. The 2008 vintage will add a Pinot Noir from Annahala Vineyard in the Anderson Valley.

Moderate golden straw color in the glass.
Inviting aromas of apple, pear, lemon curd and buttery brioche. A nice blend of fruit and oak attributes, with
flavors of yellow apple, lemon, honey, pineapple, and blond caramel with a hint of toast in the background.
Mildly creamy in texture with brisk acidity and some finishing purpose.
Score: 90.

2014 Loos Family Coastside Cuvée Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
14.3% alc., pH 3.69, TA 0.62, 300
hand-numbered bottles, $42. Primarily sourced from Doctor’s Vineyard. Mainly Dijon 777 clone and Swan
selection harvested at 26.5º Brix. Over 10% whole cluster, 4-day cold soak, 14-day primary fermentation using
feral and selected proprietary yeasts. Aged 11 months in medium toast plus French oak barrels, 70% neutral
and 30% new. Bottled unfined with nominal polish filter.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of
grape, Damsel plum, black raspberry and nutty oak. Mid weight flavors of black cherry and blueberry-pomegranate
with a straw note in the background. The tannins are well matched, and the finish is particularly
heady. The wine picks up fruit intensity over time in the glass, yet there is something about the flavor profile
that puzzles me.

produced in selected vintages. Vineyard is 7 acres in Freestone planted on
Goldridge loam soil. Yields were 2 tons per acre. Clones 115, 667,777 and
Pommard. 9-day cold soak with manual punch downs. Wild and inoculated
yeasts. Aged in 50% new and 50% neutral French Francois Fréres and Remond
Allier oak barrels. Winemakers are Adam Smith and Brad Loos.

Moderate
reddish-purple color in the glass. Enticing perfume of red cherries, red plums,
hay and dried herbs. Lighter weighted on the palate, but flavorful, featuring red
cherries and berries accented by savory herbs. The wine has a unique flavor
that distinguishes it from mainstream Pinot Noirs. The tannins are supple and the whole package is well
composed. Still solid two days later from a previously opened and re-corked bottle indicating age ability.

dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Deeply perfumed with aromas of dark berries, black cherries, dark
chocolate, Asian 5-spice, and oak. Mid weight flavors replicate the aromas with an earthy, forest floor
undertone. The tannins are soft and the wine finishes with some intensity and persistence on the raspberry-infused
finish

cranberries, cherries, herbs and allspice becoming a little minty over time.
Darker fruits clothed in dusty tannins. Notes of underbrush and savory herbs
add interest. Very smooth and creamy on the palate. Goes down easy. Good.

tons per acre. Extended 9-day cold soak, gentle hand punch downs three
times a day, 10 day fermentation with wild and proprietary yeast, aged 9+
months in 50% new and 50% neutral Francois Freres French oak with
medium toast plus. Unfined and unfiltered.

Light garnet color. Complex
aromatics showing black cherry, cinnamon apple, cola and a hint of oak.
Lovely cherry fruit on an elegant platform with fine-grain tannins and a tangy finish
displaying orange peel and a delicate floral bent that is very appealing. Very impressive effort for first time out.
