Calstar Cellars is winemaker's Richard Davis' own label started in 2001. Davis has been a winemaker for over 20 years and has done stints at Flowers Vineyard & Winery, Tandem Winery and two central coast wineries. He is currently the winemaker for Londer Vineyards, Halleck Vineyards and La Czar Vineyards.
He has released a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from both Sangiacomo and Halberg Vineyards and a vineyard-designated Pinot Noir from Londer Estate. In 2009, he added River's Edge Vineyard in the Anderson Valley to his Pinot Noir lineup.

Moderately light in color. Appealing
aromas of spiced berry jam on toast which fade some over time in the glass. Tasty essence of red berries with
satisfying flavor intensity. Supple tannins, a refreshing grip of acidity and well-integrated alcohol. Good. (Note:
I found the wine discounted to $28)

The nose starts off
bright with aromas of black cherries, red berries, spring herbs and a
hint of oak. Over time in the glass, the intensity fades unveiling notes
of wet leaves and brioche. Nicely herbed red fruits with discreet
richness, soft tannins, and moderate persistence. A workhorse Pinot
that is not extraordinary, but has everything in check leading to a pleasant
drinking experience that is value-priced to boot. Decent (+)

Davis’s own label. He also makes the wines at Halleck Vineyard and Londer Vineyards. Best of
Class winner at the 2008 Sonoma County Harvest Fair Wine Competition. Sourced from Sangiacomo
and Hallberg vineyards.

Bright Bing cherry initially, developing a darker fruit profile with time in the
glass. Cherry-driven flavors with a hint of prune, tea and subtle oak. A very satisfying drink that is
silky textured and beautifully composed. Not a serious wine, but readily accessible and a good value.
