The RR Ridgecrest Vineyards Pinot Noir represents the best wines sourced from the 164-acre Ridgecrest Vineyards estate. Harry Peterson-Nedry, on of the founding partners of Chehalem, is the sole owner of this label. Stylistically, this wine is the masculine counterpart to the more feminine style of Chehalem Reserve Pinot Noir.
Ribbon Ridge is located 4 miles northeast of Dundee between the towns of Newberg and Gaston at the northwestern end of the Chehalem Mountains. Harry Peterson-Nedry was the first to plant grapes in this appellation at Ridgecrest Vineyard in 1980. The appellation was approved in 2006 and since then, the Ribbon Ridge Winery as voluntarily suspended using "Ribbon Ridge" in its brand, preferring it to be used to the greater good of the grapegrowers in the appellation. Beginning with 2006, a wine will be produced to replace the RR wine called Statement, made from the original Pommard plantings.
2006 RR (Ribbon Ridge) Ridgecrest Vineyards Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir
14.9% alc., 594 cases, $69. This bottling represents the best wines sourced from the Ridgecrest Vineyards estate. Harry Peterson-Nedry, one of the founding partners of Chehalem, is the sole owner of this label. This wine is crafted in a masculine style in counterpart to the more feminine Chehalem Reserve sourced from this vineyard. · A powerful and charming nose of roasted black cherry fruit and nuts with a rose petal flourish. On the palate the fruit is thin and closed with plentiful acidity and notable oak on the finish. Right now this wine smells considerably better than it tastes and it needs more time in the bottle to unravel. Reviewed December 17, 2008 ARTICLE »
