This winery is named for an ancient oak tree that towers over the 100-acre estate that was used as a surveyor's landmark in 1854 during the Oregon Trail era. Owners Dennis and Carolyn Devine produce only estate wines grown on the 52-acre estate vineyard in the Eola Hills planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Viognier and Dolcetto. The vineyard is farmed sustainably and is certified LIVE.
Steven Westby has been the winemaker and vineyard manager for over ten years. Two value-priced Pinot Noirs are produced: Witness Tree Chainsaw and Witness Tree Estate. The flagship wine is the Witness Tree Vintage Select Pinot Noir. Special bottlings include Hanson Pinot Noir (from a block at the top of the vineyard), Benchmark Pinot Noir (from a site in the lower vineyard), and Claim No. 51 (from two unique sites in the upper vineyard). The wines are available online.
The tasting room has seasonal hours - check the website.
