Zoot Allures is the second label of J. Christopher Wines, a small winery specializing in Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills and stainless steel fermented white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Chardonnay.
Founder and winemaker Jay Somers mentored with John Paul, the winemaker and owner of Cameron Winery. Later he partnered with software executive Bill Holloran and together they built a small winery on Holloran's farm. Somers makes Holloran's Holloran Winery and Stafford Hill label wines as well as his own wines at the facility. The signature J. Christopher Pinot Noir is from the 25-year-old Le Pavillon Vineyard located in the Dundee Hills.
A number of dogs assist in the winemaking and are featured on the Zoot Allures label. The wines are sold through the website and Oregon retail wine stores.
2007 Zoot Allures Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
13% alc., $19. Second label from J. Christopher Wines in Linn, Oregon that is very popular. · Shy brambly red fruits with Mediterranean spice on the nose with some alcohol peeking out. This wine is light in weight displaying decent earth-dusted cherry, cranberry and rhubarb flavors but there is some green notes that would suggest under ripe fruit. The acidity is fine and the tannins are held in check. Great label. Reviewed March 26, 2009 ARTICLE »
