Winemaker Stephen Passagno earned a degree in Enology from California State University at Fresno in 1986, was the Vice President and Winemaker for Jekel Vineyards and in 1991-2004 for Lockwood Vineyard. In 1999 he founded Passagno Winery with two other partners and released his first wines with that vintage. Passagno left Lockwood Vineyard in 2004 to pursue his label full time.
Mutiple varietal wines are produced including Pinot Noirs sourced from the Santa Lucia Highlands , Arroyo Seco and San Benito County. The four small estate Pinot Noir vineyards at the winery in the Santa Lucia Highlands are named after sons Anthony, Stephen, Robert and John. Planted to the La Tache selection of Pinot Noir, these grapes go into a special Four Boys Vineyard Pinot Noir.
The Passagno wines are sold online. The tasting room is open daily. The Highlands House, located on the Passagno Winery Estate, is a 2 bedroom fully equipped house available for rental.
2006 Pessagno Four Boys Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
14.6% alc., 208 cases, $50. · Dark reddish-violet color. On the nose the fruit has a cooked profile with notes of raisin, coffee and dark chocolate. Overripe flavors of raisins, even porto, with a sour cherry edge and notable dry tannins. Not for me. Reviewed May 7, 2009 ARTICLE »
