Originally founded in 1981 by John Scharffenberger, the winery was sold in 1998 and renamed Pacific Echo. It was then acquired in 2004 by Maisons Marques & Domaines (the owners of Roederer Estate) and the original name restored. Tex Sawyer has been the winemaker here since 1989.

The winery produces several sparklers including a Cremant, a Blanc de Blanc and a Brut, but a small amount of still Pinot Noir is produced and sold at the winery. The tasting room is housed in a 1920's craftsman house with a softly lit gallery space displaying art work. Eva Johnson, who may be in the tasting room when you visit, is a walking history book about the property which was originally owned by her husband's uncle, Frank Guntley.
