Stewart Cellars was founded in 2000 by Michael and Anne Stewart of Houston, Texas. Michael founded Texas MicroSystems which he left in 1999 after merging the company with the Radisys Corporation. In 2000, the Stewarts bought a majority interest in Juliana Vineyards, a 3,400-acre property in the Pope Valley area of the Napa Valley. The winery focuses on Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Stewart Cellars Pinot Noir is sourced from the Gibson Vineyard located on a ridge top halfway between Graton and Forestville. The winemaker is Paul Hobbs.
The wines are available through the website with limited retail distribution.
2009 Stewart Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
14.5% alc., 402 cases, $50. Sourced from Gibson Vineyard on Ross Station Road. Clone 115. Aged 10 months in 55% new and 45% 1-year-old French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. Consulting winemaker Paul Hobbs. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Ripe, roasted fruit profile on the nose with aromas of cooked berries and cherry pie glaze. Rich and velvety on the palate, even a little too soft, with an extracted core of sweet, sappy and very ripe fruit flavors including stewed plum and cassis, finishing with generous intensity and a little heat. Decent. Reviewed June 23, 2013 ARTICLE »
