Hamacher Wines
Eric Hamacher is an emigrate from California who moved north and founded Hamacher Wines in 1995. He holds a degree in viticulture and enology from University California Davis and has over 15 years of winemaking experience including stints at Mondavi, Chalone and Etude. Hamacher Wines contracts with growers throughout the Willamette Valley. The wines are produced at Oregon's first multiple winemaking facility, Carlton Winemaker's Studio, co-founded by Hamacher in 2002. The Carlton Winemaker's Studio was the first winery in the country constructed following the sustainable construction code known as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

2002 Hamacher Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
13.0% alc., 1,500 cases, $40. Winemaker Eric Hamacher is a staunch believer in blending vineyards for his Pinot Noirs. The 2002 vintage was only recently released and I have tasted it twice.
·
The nose is pleasing with a perfume of dark red fruits and a hint of vanilla. Berry jam, cranberries and sour cherry dominate the fruit flavors. The finish is a bit rustic and the brisk acidity cries out for food.
