Lockwood Vineyard is huge! Located about 200 miles south of San Francisco in the San Lucas AVA, the vineyard occupies 1,850 continuous acres in Monterey County. The soil in the vineyard is unique, forming a geologically recognized "Lockwood Shaly Loam," only found in two small areas in Central California. Lockwood has been producing wine since 1989.

The partners of Lockwood Vineyard are Paul Toeppen, Phil Johnson and Butch Lindley whose cumulative vineyard management experience is well over 90 years. The Lockwood Vineyard was first planted in 1981 at the base of the Santa Lucia mountain range in Monterey County. The vineyard is one of the largest premium estate vineyards in the world. Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot have been successfully grown here.

A single Pinot Noir, block 7, is produced and sold through country-wide retail distribution.

The winemaker since 2004 is Larry Gomez.

2006 Lockwood Vineyard Block 7 Monterey Pinot Noir

13.8% alc., $14. Estate grown and bottled. · Appealing aromas of black cherries, wildflowers, cedar and oak. Discreetly concentrated cherry and blueberry flavors with the tannic backbone to age. Very soft in the mouth. No complaints, just doesn’t thrill. Reviewed September 5, 2009 ARTICLE »
