Poppy is located in Monterey County and was founded by the Silva family in 2003. The Silva family has spent over 45 years farming in the Salinas Valley. The name, Poppy, was born after looking into the vineyard at wild poppies growing between the vines. The Poppy, of course, is a symbol of the state of California. Poppy was started with the goal of creating consistently elegant and approachable wines. The Silva family controls grape sourcing and operates a modern winery.
The Silva family farms five vineyards including Poppy Hillside Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands (220 acres of old vine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir established in 1972), Silva Family Vineyard in Arroyo Seco (50 acres of Pinot Noir), Beeswax Vineyard in Arroyo Seco (24 acres of organically farmed Pinot Noir and other varieties established in 2000), Bella Vita Vineyard in Arroyo Seco (254 acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay established in 2006), and Evelina Marie Estate Vineyard in Santa Lucia Highlands (10 acres of Pinot Noir established in 2012).
Poppy produces both a Monterey County and Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir which are available in wide retail distribution.

Aromas of old barrique and smoldering campfire. Mid weight flavors of black cherry and oak-driven tobacco
and toast. A simple quaff, with mild tannins and a modest cherry-driven finish.

2009 Poppy Monterey County Pinot Noir

Moderately intense color. Appealing immediately
with aromas of black cherries and berries, spice, white pepper and oak and flavors that echo the nose with a
subtle underlying grapefruit and woody note. Easy to drink with a decent structural backbone supporting the
middleweight fruit, but fades in aromatic and flavor intensity in the glass over time and delivers a shallow finish.

Slightly confected strawberry aromas wrapped in
sweet oak with a touch of funk. Decent, but dilute, black cherry flavors with an oaky edge. Supple dry tannins
make for easy drinking.
