De Lancellotti Family Vineyards

Paul and Kendall de Lancellotti biodynamically farm their 16-acre vineyard on Calkins Lane in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Planted in 2001, the vineyard is the source of the de Lancellotti Estate Pinot Noirs crafted at Robert Brittan winery facility by Paul with veteran winemaker Robert Brittan as consultant.

The tasting room is located in Newberg (see website).

2016 de Lancellotti Famiglia Chehalem Mountains Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

14.0% alc., 225 cases, $40. A reserve blend from the winery’s biodynamically farmed home vineyard planted to clones ”828,” Pommard, 777 and 115. Only the best barrels are selected and blended. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Intoxicating nose with considerable nuance, offering aromas of cherry, boysenberry, nutty oak, dark rose petal and chocolate basil. Light to mid weight in extract, with vibrant flavors of cherry, strawberry and spice. A modicum of tannins add interest to the silken texture, with the wine finishing dry and unpretentious. 13.6% alc., 175 cases, $60. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Restrained, but pleasant aromas of cherry and nutty oak. Silky, sleek and refined in the mouth with a mid weight core of red cherry and berry and blueberry flavors. Nicely composed, with exceptional vibrancy and a quenching finish. 2016 de Lancellotti Onelia Chehalem Mountains Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

14.0% alc., 60 cases, $60. A special limited bottling named after owner Paul de Lancellotti’s Italian grandmother. The wine is sourced from the winery’s biodynamically farmed home vineyard. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. The nose reveals scents of purple grape, cherry, earthy flora, spice and vanilla. The mid weight plus essence of crunchy black cherry and black raspberry fruit is quite satisfying. Juicy, with an earthy, woodsy tone, featuring balanced tannins and a thread of oak in the background. The finish is very good in length but not exceptional. 14.5% alc., pH 3.50, 400 cases, $25. A three vineyard blend from biodynamically farmed vineyards. Native yeast fermentation, aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 20% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Reserved aromas of muddled black cherry, wine cave and underbrush. Noticeably riper fruited, with a core of black cherry and purple berry fruits accented by warm spices and a noticeable overlay of oak. 14.1% alc., pH 3.40, 200 cases, $40. sourced from the home estate vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. 15% whole cluster. Native yeast fermentation, aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. · Light ruby red color in the glass. Aromas of cherry and sawdust arrive over time in the glass. Bright and sleek on the palate, with light to mid weight flavors of red cherry and red berry, nicely spiced. Forward drinking, with a fortuitous cherry-driven finish. 14.6% alc., pH 3.4, 150 cases, $50. Dijon 96, 26-year-old, own-rooted and organically farmed vines planted in Jory soils. Native yeast fermentation, aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 10% new. · Light golden yellow color in the glass. Intriguing aromas of chalky lemon, steel and minerality for want of a better word. 14.5% alc., pH 3.50, 220 cases, $60. Sourced from Lachini Vineyard located in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. 60% Pommard and 40% 115. 15% whole cluster. Native yeast fermentation, aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 25% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Aromas of wild strawberry and blueberry arrive with a bit of oak. A comforting wine with vivid flavors of black cherry and blueberry sporting impressive mid palate intensity. Satiny in texture, with the right touch of oak and a very generous finish. Native fermentation, aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. An array of aromas arrive over time in the glass including black cherry, ripe strawberry, spice and pipe smoke. Remarkable attack of mid weighted cherry, raspberry and strawberry fruits underlain with baking spices. Seamless, silky and sexy, finishing with charitable red fruited goodness. Score: 94. A lighter weighted but spirited style with welcome Pinot delicacy, that features juicy cherry and cranberry fruits with a noticeable compliment of oak, a substantial but not imposing tannic backbone, and a lively, acid-driven finish. 2012 de Lancellotti Famiglia Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

13.8% alc., 75 cases, $35. A blend of estate fruit and sourced fruit all farmed Biodynamic. This wine is the least expensive in the de Lancellotti lineup, but I thought it was terrific. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Delicate aromas of cherry, spice and oak vanillin. Very smooth and likable on the palate, with an impressively intense mid palate attack of dark red cherry and black raspberry flavors with a compliment of cinnamon spice and oak in the background. Very crisp with a generous and persistent cherry-driven finish that is mouth watering. An impressive offering that was still pumping out the pleasure the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. No need to wait on this beauty. Score: 94. 2012 de Lancellotti Onelia Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

14.4% alc., $45. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Very shy aromas of berries on the vine with a woodsy undertone. Delicious and super intense core of cherry and raspberry fruits, finishing with power and length. The fruit is complimented by a touch of oak vanillin. Slightly grippy tannins show up on the big finish. Plenty of Pinot singing in this wine. Needs bottle aging for the aromas to arrive. Score: 92. Reviewed November 19, 2014 ARTICLE »
