Aged on the lees for 12 months in French oak barrels, 20% new. · Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Really nice perfume of wild boysenberry, wilted rose, exotic spice and tobacco. Very streamlined in style with impressive balance and elegance. Vivid mid weight flavors of purple and black berries with a healthy tannic backbone that is supportive and not intrusive. 2014 Guillén Family Estaban Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc.,154 cases, $25. Sourced from 3 vineyards: 56% Domingo, 42% Vista Hills Block F, and 2% Meredith Mitchell. A selection of the most approachable barrels in the cellar. Native yeast fermentation with 100% whole clusters. Basket pressed and aged on the lees in 100% neutral French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was racked twice, after the completion of MLF and again before bottling. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. The nose really shines with bright aromas of plum, dark raspberry and spice. Very soft in the mouth with the mid weight core of darker berry and plum fruit flavors accented with notes of dark chocolate. 2014 Guillén Family Vista Hills Vineyard Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.2% alc., $45. Pommard 4 clone planted in 2006. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Shy dark fruits on the nose that is primarily offering sous-bois and floral aromas. The intense attack of dark stone and berry fruits is framed by firm, but amorous tannins and bright acidity. 2014 Guillén Adrián Reserve Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.6% alc., 125 cases, $60, Sourced from 3 vineyards, 100% Pommard clone: 40% Vista Hills Block G, 20% Saikkonen, and 40% Meredith Mitchell. Native yeast fermentation using 100% whole clusters. Basket pressed and aged on the lees in 100% lightly toasted new French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was racked twice after MLF and again before bottling. Filtered. 100% Pommard. Jesus’ attempt to mimic DRC. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Lovely aromas of plum, boysenberry, exotic spice and wilted dark rose petal. Vibrant purple fruits tread lightly on the palate in this juicy wine. Inviting integration of oak, fruit and oak tannins, and acidity. This wine will need a few years to fully evolve and display its engaging character, but it has purposely been built for longevity. 2013 White Rose Estate Vista Hills Vineyard Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Dijon Clone 115 Pinot Noir 12.0% alc., $60. 100% whole cluster fermentation. Aged in French oak barrels, 16% new. · Light cherry red color in the glass. Aromas of red cherry pie glaze, spice, forest floor and rose petal. A savory stemminess and floral and woody notes dominate the light weight red fruits. Noticeable cut with modest tannins. Invigorating aromas of black cherry pie glaze, vanilla, wilted rose and spice. Eye-opening attack of well-ripened black cherry and black raspberry fruits which are vivid and juicy. 2012 Guillen Family Adrian Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir 13.4% alc., 23 cases, $60. Sourced from Vistal Hills Vineyard Block F planted in 2005 with Dijon 667. Jory soils. 4-day cold soak, 22 days skin contact, basket pressed, aged 17 months sur lie in one new French oak barrel. Racked twice and filtered. Bottled very recently. · Moderately dark reddish purple hue in the glass. The nose is reticent, giving up reluctantly some hints of darker fruits, spice and a subtle oak. Rich and sappy, with a plethora of fruit flavors including black raspberry, plum, cassis and spice, supported by broadshouldered, yet refined tannins. The wine has a caressing mouthfeel, and a finish of startling length. I think Grand Cru entered my mind while tasting this beauty. Still very young, but the potential is obvious. Score: 95. After meticulously tasting barrel samples blind before bottling, only vineyards that meet the neo-classical objective for a given vintage are selected for this blend. White Rose Vineyard (11%), Vista Hills Vineyard (11%), Anderson Family Vineyard (17%), Guillen Vineyard (28%), Lia’s Vineyard (22%), and Luciole Vineyard (11%). Pommard, Wädenswil, 777 and 115. Harvest Oct 11-26. 100% whole cluster fermentation. Total skin contact 16-26 days. Aged 16 months in 14% new French oak. · Medium reddish purple hue in the glass. The nose is shy initially, opening slowly to reveal scents of fresh dark berries, spice and cut flowers. Much more elegantly styled with a satisfying core of black raspberry, plum and black cherry flavors expansive on the palate and generating a lengthy, spice-laden finish highlighted by sweet oak and suave tannins. 2012 White Rose Estate Winemaker’s Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.6% alc., pH 3.62, 257 cases, $90. A special cuvée blended from favorite barrels in the cellar chosen by winemaker Jesus Guillén. A blend of White Rose, Guillén, Vista Hills, Luciole and Red Hills vineyards. 6 to 9-day cold soak, 93% whole cluster fermentation, 20-26 days of skin contact, aged 16 months in 9% new French oak barrels. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. The nose is a knockout with bright aromas of black cherry, sarsaparilla, smoky rose petal and spice. This wine is a textural masterpiece with waves of velvety goodness. The ripe flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and spice really impress and are framed by a good grip of acidity and a compliment of modestly firm, fine-grain tannins. The finish is incredibly long and vibrant. I like this wine more the longer I sampled it. It was extraordinary the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle showing an explosion of spicy fruit goodness and a very sleek demeanor. Score: 94-95. A special cuvée from winemaker Jesus Guillen who choses his favorite barrels in the cellar. A blend of White Rose, Guillen, Vista Hills, Luciole and Red Hills vineyards. Vineyards planted 1978-2006 primarily in Jory soils. Harvest Oct 11-26. 93% whole cluster fermentation on average. 6-9-days cold soak. 20-26 days skin contact. Aged 16 months in 9% new French oak. · Moderate reddish purple hue in the glass. Fabulous nose perfumed with aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, dark rose, exotic spices and peppery herbs. A terrific, well-structured wine in a masculine style (jesus prefers this) with layers of flavors including Bing cherry, black raspberry pie filling, sassafras and cola. More strict sorting in this vintage. 100% whole cluster and native fermentation, 11-day cold soak, 22 days on skins, basket pressed, aged in neutral French oak barrels for 11 months. Racked twice and filtered. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Lovely whole cluster nose featuring bright aromas of warm cherries and spice. The core of black cherry fruit is complimented by a lively underbelly of acid and a firm, but noble, non-astringent tannins. The long and mighty finish is especially notable. Score: 92. Highly perfumed with enticing aromas of cherry, wilted rose, exotic spices and the faintest oak. Bright and juicy with light to mid weight flavors of well-spiced black cherry backed by modestly astringent tannins and lively acidity. Very likable with a slight earthy bent to the flavors. Part of the winery’s appellation series of wines. 80% White Rose Vineyard (115) and 20% Vista Hills Vineyard (667). 44% whole cluster. 19-20 days of skin contact. Pressed off in an old world, half-ton, wooden basket press. Aged 15 months in French oak. Racked once after malolactic fermentation and then again before blending. · Very light ruby red in color. Delicate but pleasing aromas of red cherries, baking spices, pine resin and sandalwood. A ballet dancer of a Pinot, light on its feet, feminine and very charming. Flavors of slightly confected iced cherries are crisped by bright acidity and supple tannins make for easy drinking. Exotic spices add intrigue. A signature Dundee Hills Pinot Noir. Tasted twice. A solid, mid weight wine with enticing aromas of cherry, raspberry, rose, and spice echoed in the flavors that fan out on the palate, displaying a balanced backbone of soft tannins. Score: 89.
