Release spring 2018. This vineyard is located above the town of Monroe in the southernmost reaches of the Willamette Valley AVA. 12 acres tended by Steve Price, a former Professor of Viticulture at Oregon State University in Corvallis. The vineyard was planted in 2005 to Pommard, “828,” and Mariafeld clones in sedimentary Belpine soil.100% de-stemmed, short cold soak, uninoculated fermentation, manual punch downs, aged in neutral French oak barrels for 18 months. Racked twice before bottling. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. The nose is earthbound, with aromas of earthy flora and underbrush. On the palate, this mid weight plus wine offers a stunningly intense attack of berry flavors including black raspberry, blackberry and Marionberry. 2013 Violin Sunny Mountain Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.2% alc., $45. Small production Pinot Noir from Will Hamilton starting with this vintage. Sunny Mountain Vineyard was planted and is farmed by industry veteran Steve Price. It is located in the southern Willamette Valley, hear Broadley Vineyards in Monroe. One of a handful of producers making designated wines from this vineyard. · Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. Demure aromas of red fruits and wood spice lead to a medium-bodied wine with an enjoyable array of red berry and cherry flavors framed by dusty tannins. 2010 Horsetail Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.8% alc., 150 cases, $28. Sourced from Zena Crown, Broadley and Sunny Mountain vineyards. 100% destemmed. Aged in 60% new Francois Frères and Taransaud French oak barrels for 14 months. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of cherry, oak, biscuit (yeasty), stem and coffee becoming more pronounced the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Soft in the mouth with vibrant acidity, featuring cherry and raspberry fruit with a hint of tarry, coffee-scented oak in the background. A racy wine for early drinking. Decent. 2010 Brooks Sunny Mountain Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 12.9% alc., 100 cases, $45. Old vine vineyard. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. The bright nose really reels you in with aromas of fresh, dark red cherries and berries and dried herbs. A little more body and a little less acid-driven than the Temperance Hill bottling, with hi-tone red cherry flavor. 2010 Coattails Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 14.0% alc., 90 cases, $74. Sourced from Sunny Mountain Vineyard in the southern Willamette Valley owned and farmed by Steve price. A co-fermented blend of 85% Pommard and 15% Mariafeld. 100% destemmed. Aged in 80% new Francois Frères and Taransaud French oak barrels for 15 months. No chemical adjustments, racking, fining or filtering. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Rather shy but pleasing aromas of black cherries, spice and dried rose petals. Delicious black cherry and plum fruit front and center that is on the big, riper side for this cool Oregon vintage, reflecting the warmer vineyard site. Displays the spice that Francois Frères oak is known for. Soft in the mouth with supple tannins and well-integrated oak and acidity. A charming Pinot that is very enticing. Very good.
