2014 Soléna Guadalupe Vineyard Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir 13.4% alc., pH 3.65, TA 0.56, 148 cases, $48. Vines planted in 2006. Harvest Brix 25.6º. Aged 8 months in French oak barrels, 40% new. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Deep aromas of red cherry and berry with a compliment of sousbois. The typical crunchy cherry of the Dundee Hills is on full display in this wine with good depth and character. A little spice adds to the appeal as does the lingering finish although it leaves a bit of astringency in its wake. Score: 90. Reviewed December 13, 2016 WINERY » ARTICLE »
2012 Ken Wright Cellars Guadalupe Vineyard Yamhill-Carlton District Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., 400 cases, $45. This vineyard was planted in 1989 in Willakenzie soils. Clones are Wädenswil and Dijon 115. Small berries and clusters are typical. Owned by Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeve and managed by Joel Myers. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy, but pleasing aromas of black cherry, sassafras, raw beef and spice. Very smooth on the palate with a tasty core of sweet cherry and raspberry fruit. Very juicy, with balanced, supple tannins, and bright underlying acidity lifting the soprano finish that is flush with cherry flavor. This wine needs time for full expression. Score: 90. 2010 Siltstone Guadalupe Vineyard Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.8% alc., $32. Joel and Louise Myers & Sons of Vinetenders manage this vineyard for owners Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boere. · Moderate reddish purple hue in the glass. Haunting aromas of black cherry, wilted rose, wine cave and wet stones. Plenty of fruit sap, boasting concentrated flavors of black cherry and black raspberry with an earthy underpinning. Much bigger than the previous two vintages, filling the mouth with pleasure and departing with a generous amount of fruit goodness and some dry tannin residue. A bold wine that dances on its toes. Score: 91. Reviewed March 29, 2014 WINERY » ARTICLE »
2009 Siltstone Guadalupe Vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir 13.9% alc., 230 cases, $30. Vineyard owners are Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeve and the vineyard is managed by Joel Myers of Vinetenders whose family produces this wine. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Intense and very appealing aromas of black cherries, black raspberries, ollalieberries and dark chocolate. Soft, smooth and ambrosial, with middleweight flavors of well-ripened dark cherry and berry fruits with complimentary accents of Asian 5-spice, cinnamon and toasty oak. Balanced, ripe tannins and a powerful, lasting finish complete the picture. I have been very impressed by this wine over the past three vintages. It seems to fly under the radar, yet is deserving of a bigger audience. Remarkably, the winery is still offering the 2007 and 2008 vintages of this superb wine. If you want a wine that typifies the Dundee Hills, this would be an excellent choice. Reviewed November 24, 2012 WINERY » ARTICLE »
2007 Ken Wright Cellars Guadalupe Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., $47. Sourced from a vineyard located in the southwestern end of the Dundee Hills just north of Lafayette planted in 1989 in Willakenzie soils. Owned by Jim Stonebridge and Kathleen Boeye and managed by Ken Wright Cellars. · The nose has reluctant fruit aromas but pleasing notes of exotic spice and oak char. On the palate the fruit remains in the background with a heavy tug of oak and herbal flavor dominating. Tasted the next day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, the wine was much better, with the dark fruits advancing to the forefront and the oak receding along with a smoother mouth feel. Wait at least 2 to 3 years on this one. Reviewed August 17, 2009 WINERY » ARTICLE »
