A meticulous selection of the best barrels in the cellar based on harmony, complexity and mouth feel. A three vineyard blend (33% Vista Hills, 33% Flȃnerie, and 33% Meredith Mitchell). 66.6% Pommard, 33.3% Dijon 667. 100% whole cluster, native fermentation. Aged on the lees for 12 months in French oak barrels, 20% new. · Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Really nice perfume of wild boysenberry, wilted rose, exotic spice and tobacco. Very streamlined in style with impressive balance and elegance. Vivid mid weight flavors of purple and black berries with a healthy tannic backbone that is supportive and not intrusive. 2014 Guillén Family Estaban Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc.,154 cases, $25. Sourced from 3 vineyards: 56% Domingo, 42% Vista Hills Block F, and 2% Meredith Mitchell. A selection of the most approachable barrels in the cellar. Native yeast fermentation with 100% whole clusters. Basket pressed and aged on the lees in 100% neutral French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was racked twice, after the completion of MLF and again before bottling. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. The nose really shines with bright aromas of plum, dark raspberry and spice. Very soft in the mouth with the mid weight core of darker berry and plum fruit flavors accented with notes of dark chocolate. A meticulous selection of the best barrels in the cellar offering harmony, complexity and mouthfeel. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Gorgeous nose with effusive aromas of black cherry jam, dark red rose petal, pine sap and spice. Impressive fruit presence offering an array of purple fruits and plenty of spice. 2014 Guillén Family Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.2% alc., $45. Pommard clone planted in 1996. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Beautiful aromatic presence, offering scents of black cherry pie and spice. The mid weight, juicy purple berry and black cherry fruits have noticeable presence on the mid palate and envious length on the finish. A spice and savory earth component add interest. This wine has the most tannin among the single vineyard bottlings, but the tannin is fruit in origin and not particularly astringent. The lip-smacking finish completes the bright picture. 2014 Guillén Adrián Reserve Cuvée Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.6% alc., 125 cases, $60, Sourced from 3 vineyards, 100% Pommard clone: 40% Vista Hills Block G, 20% Saikkonen, and 40% Meredith Mitchell. Native yeast fermentation using 100% whole clusters. Basket pressed and aged on the lees in 100% lightly toasted new French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was racked twice after MLF and again before bottling. Filtered. 100% Pommard. Jesus’ attempt to mimic DRC. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Lovely aromas of plum, boysenberry, exotic spice and wilted dark rose petal. Vibrant purple fruits tread lightly on the palate in this juicy wine. Inviting integration of oak, fruit and oak tannins, and acidity. This wine will need a few years to fully evolve and display its engaging character, but it has purposely been built for longevity. 2013 Ken Wright Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 12.5% alc., $50. This vineyard is planted to own-rooted Pommard first established in 1988. Soil is Yamhill - shallow silty loam over basaltic bedrock. The vineyard is owned and managed by Susan Meredith and Franck Mitchell. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Scents of cherry, forest floor and oak char are somewhat shy, but the fruit explodes on the palate. Rich raspberry and cherry flavor that attacks the mid palate with a vengeance. Accents of baking spice, earth and conifer add interest. Uncommon fruit energy that fuels an intensely flavorful finish. Rare to find a wine with such palate saturating fruit. 2012 Harper Voit Surlie Willamette Valley Pinot Blanc 13.6% alc., 225 cases, $20. Crannell and Meredith Mitchell vineyards. Barrel fermented and age sur lie. · Very light golden yellow color and clear in the glass. Highly aromatic with effusive aromas of baked apple, Limoncello, pear, pastry cream and lees. Delicious flavors of apple, pear and citrus, finishing long with a bright green apple note and palate cleansing acidity. Pinot Blanc can be watery and uninspired, but this wine is everything but, possessing nuance, body and flair. One of the best Pinot Blancs I have experienced from Oregon. Score: 91. 2012 Ken Wright Cellars Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., 310 cases, $45. This vineyard was planted in 1988 to own-rooted Pommard clone. Yamhill soil - silty loam over basaltic bedrock. Owned and managed by Susan Meredith and Frank Mitchell. Typically produces small berries and clusters and is well-structured, requiring a bit more aging. · Moderately dark reddish-purple hue in the glass. A wide array of aromas appear in the glass, including black raspberry, forest floor, bramble, leather, vanilla and spicy oak. Very soft and smooth on the palate with ripe flavors of red and black raspberries, Satsuma plum and cherry. Impressive depth of flavor and a persistent finish that is almost painfully intense. The tannins are firm and muscular and make an appearance on the finish. Much better the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle with more integration of tannins. 2012 Meristem Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 14.2% alc., $45. · Dark reddish purple color in the glass. Demure aromas of raspberry, spice and oak. Full-bodied, velvety flavors of blackberry and black raspberry that fill the mouth with sweetness and sappiness, ending with a flourish of chewy, very ripe opulence. Syrah in size and character. 2011 Raptor Ridge Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 12.5% alcohol, <935 cases, $45, screwcap. Released September 2013. 49% Estate, 17% Meredith Mitchell, 12% Shea, 10% Aubre Vert, 7% Goodrich and 5% Olenik vineyards. Harvest between October 18 and November 2, 2011. Diverse yeast program, 19 day fermentation, aged 9 months in 18% new French oak cooperage. · Effusive scents of dark red cherry pie glaze with a hint of toasty oak. Mid weight dark cherry and plum fruit is featured backed by supple tannins, juicy acidity and complimentary oak. Slightly more fruit intensity and finish than the Estate bottling. The finish is worth special mention as it is strikingly long and lush. This wine will continue to develop and pick up interest with another year or two in bottle. Score: 91. 2010 Raptor Ridge Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.0% alc., 175 cases, $38, screwcap. Release early 2013. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Nose-filling aromas of spiced red stone fruits. Discreetly concentrated core of dark red and purple fruits including grapes, with a juicy finish that lasts and lasts. Satisfying fullness and roundness with a very appealing velvety mouth feel. Everything is in place with balanced dry tannins, zippy acidity and perfectly ripened fruit. 2010 Raptor Ridge Trig Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.0% alc., 50 cases, $41, screwcap. Released June 2012. A barrel select blend of 50% Shea Vineyard and 50% Meredith Mitchell Vineyard grapes. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Nicely perfumed initially with aromas of cherry, cranberry and spice, fading in appeal over time as aromas of tobacco, herbs and geranium emerge. 2010 Winderlea Meredith Mitchell Vineyard McMinnville Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., $48. Planted in 1988 by owners Susan Meredith and spouse Frank Mitchell on a 104-acre site located at 450 to 650 feet elevation in the Coast range foothills of the McMinnville AVA. The 25-acre vineyard is primarily planted to own-rooted Pinot Noir Pommard clone, with smaller blocks of Pinot Blanc (1996) and Pinot Gris (1995). Soils are rocky, broken basalt, sedimentary in type.The vineyard is managed by Susan and Frank. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Lovely aromas of pie cherries with a fragrant floral note. Darker cherry, berry and plum flavors enter strong and finish long. The fruit is striking in purity and made me sit up straight in my chair. A welcome underlying cut of acidity urges another sip.
