Release September 2015. · Light golden yellow color and clear in the glass. This is a syrupy ripe, buttery style of Chardonnay that is rich and heady. Aromas of buttery citrus, kiwi and warm brioche lead to flavors of citrus, kiwi, pear, peach, warm brioche, butterscotch and toffee. A very Caliesque style. When sampled the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, the wine had become somewhat ponderous and flat due to lack of acidity. This wine should be consumed in the near term. 2013 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 14.2% alc., $38. Inaugural wine replacing the Napa Valley Chardonnay after 20 vintages. Released July 2014. Predominant sources include Zio Tony Ranch, Durell, Dutton Ranch, Parmalee Hill, Sun Chase, and Gap’s Crown vineyards. Whole cluster pressed, indigenous yeast fermentations, aged sur lie with weekly stirring, 100% malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged in 35% new French oak barrels. · Moderate straw color and clear in the glass. Aromas of lemon, yellow applesauce, lemongrass and nutty oak. Lemon flavors drive the pleasure with hints of apple and melon. Slightly creamy on the palate with nicely integrated oak and a tart lemony finish. Easy to like. Score: 89. 2013 Loring Wine Company Paramelee Hill Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 14.8% alc., pH 3.91, 150 cases, $40, screwcap. Released February 2015. · Moderate golden yellow color and clear in the glass. Shy but pleasant aromas of sea breeze, toast and citrus blossom. Somewhat richer in flavor with an array of tastes including lemon custard, baked apple, nutmeg, toffee, toast and spice. 2010 Patz & Hall Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 14.2% alc., $35. Sourced from Gap’s Crown, Durell, Dutton Ranch, Sun Chase, and Parmalee Hill vineyards. Whole cluster pressed, indigenous yeast fermentations, aged sur lie with weekly stirring, 100% malolactic fermentation in barrel, aged in 40% new French oak barrels, and bottled without filtration. · Pale straw color in the glass. Pleasant perfume of baked pear, honey and toast. Moderately rich with a comforting smoothness, featuring lemony, nutty, toasty flavors with a hint of toffee, leaving some lemon-driven scent on the lively finish. Seamless and thoroughly enjoyable.
