Pommard clone. Harvest Brix 23.8º. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels, 33% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. The nose lacks fruit, offering aromas of underbrush, piquant herbs and cedary oak. The core of purple berry fruits has a slight green, herbaceous undertone. 2016 Burt Street Cellars Roma’s Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 14.1% alc., 150 cases, $45. Vineyard is located on a ridge 1,800 feet elevation above the fog line. Soil is Goldridge loam. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Aromas of cherry, dried herbs and cigar box. Savory and fruit flavors mingle in this mid weight offering with tastes of cherry, red berry and green herbs. 2013 Roma’s Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 14.0% alc., pH 3.92, TA 0.64, $N/A. Vineyard is located at 1,800 feet elevation on Lone Tree Ridge in Boonville and planted in 1992. Harvest yield 1.8 tons per acre. Winemaker Dean Carrell. 33% whole cluster added to bottom of fermentation bins. 15% of juice drained from bottom of bin to concentrate the must. 14-day post fermentation maceration. Basket pressed into French oak barrels and aged on the lees for 18 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. · Moderate ruby red color in the glass. Comforting in all aspects, with aromas of cherry, rose, brioche and a hint of oak. Nicely balanced, but a bit shallow and flat, featuring an array of red fruits in a middleweight style. Score: 88. 2011 Bailiwick Foray Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 14.4% alc., pH 3.65, TA 0.63, 75 cases, $28. Sourced from Roma’s Vineyard, located at 1800 feet elevation east of the town of Boonville. Pommard clone, yields 2 tons per acre. 100% de-stemmed, inoculated yeast fermentation, two week post-fermentation maceration, aged 16 months in 33% new French oak barrels. · Moderately light reddish color in the glass. Very reserved on the nose offering demure aromas of cherry and strawberry. Rather primary and nondescript initially with delicate flavors of red cherries and berries. Tasted the next day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, the wine offered more fruit flavor with pleasing hints of sandalwood and gingerbread, but the wine remained lean and somewhat dilute. 2010 Couloir Roma’s Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 13.1% alc., pH 3.75, TA 0.67, 142 cases, $38. This vineyard is located on a mountaintop ridge at 1,850 feet elevation. Originally planted for sparkling wine production, it was retrained to bilateral cordons for fine still wine production. Pommard clone planted in Goldridge loamy soils, now approaching 20 years old. Sustainably and organically farmed, managed by Couloir Wines in conjunction with Ardzrooni Vineyard Management. 60% whole cluster. Native yeast fermentation. Aged 10 months in 20% new French oak. · Light garnet color in the glass. Demure but pleasant aromas of cherry drops, strawberries, and straw. Middleweight flavors of dark red cherries and raspberries with hints of sandalwood. Smoothly textured with reserved tannins. Very elegant with high-spirited acidity. Good (+). 2009 Couloir Roma’s Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 14.0% alc., TA .56, 145 cases, $38. 50% whole cluster. Pommard clone now approaching 20 years of age. · Flamboyant aromas of red Bing cherries and sandalwood. Plenty of red cherry flavors, clove, other spice and everything nice. The lightest weighted wine in the lineup with less concentration but still packing plenty of flavor. Supple tannins, faint oak, and an appealing citrus note in the background. 2007 Couloir Roma’s Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 13.85% alc., 200 cases, $44. Released April 2009. Roma’s Vineyard is at 1,850 feet on a mountaintop ridge. The vineyard was originally planted in 1990 for sparkling wine production, but later retrained to a bilateral cordon for still wine production. Planted to the Pommard clone and organically farmed under the direction of Ardzooni Vineyard Management. 50% whole cluster fermentation in stainless steel open-top tanks. 7-day cold soak, native yeast fermentation, gentle manual punch downs, gravity fed into 8 French barrels, 3 new, never racked, fined or filtered. · Moderately light reddish-purple color. World-class nose featuring crushed berries with a kiss of baking spices. A lovely wine in the mouth, very smooth, with moderate ripe tannins, gentle acidity and discreetly concentrated cherry and berry fruit.
