Vineyard: Blue Side Ridge

Story	Named for formations of blue rock. This vineyard site was nearly named "Rattle Snake Ridge" due to the large population of rattlers that populate the cool hollows beneath the blue rocks. It is located on the true Sonoma Coast, located on the second ridge inland from the Pacific Ocean coastline. Planted in 1995 by Lee and Carolyn Martinelli. 6 acres on a steep slope that was once prime grazing land for sheep. The vineyard was planted to specifications of the Martinelli winemaker at the time, Helen Turley, and her husband John Wetlaufer. The vines are on a VSP trellis system with the fruit hanging between 24 and 28 inches above the ground. 2,000 vines per acre spaced 1 x 2 meters apart.

2003 Marcassin Blue Slide Ridge Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

14.9% alc., $ (current retail price from $150 to $595). · Very ripe and prodigious black fruits touched by oak, stems, mushroom, earth, citrus and some noticeable alcohol.
