Vineyard is located in the South Salem Hills and planted in volcanic soils. Non-irrigated vines. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. “Oh, my God!” aromas of fresh cherry, exotic spices including clove and allspice, fertile earth and a hint of gingerbread. The flat-out delicious red cherry core is in sync with a lovely Wassail spice accent. Seamlessly composed in a mid weight style, with welcome vibrancy and a lasting echo of scent and fruit on the finish. I especially liked this wine for its uniqueness. 2015 Haden Fig “Juliette” Willamette Valley Chardonnay 13.5% alc., $40. Others say “best” or “reserve,” but Erin says “Juliette.” A selection of the best barrels of Chardonnay destined for the normal bottling that came from Mahonia Vineyard. Extended lees aging without stirring. This is the Puligny to complement Le Puit Sec’s Chassagne. · Moderate golden yellow color in the glass. The nose is stony, flinty and buttery all at once. Seductive flavors of citrus, pear and kiwi with a mineral-laden character. Crisp and refreshing, with defining acidity the slightest tannins and an inspired finish of uncommon length. 2012 Evehsam Wood Terra Mahonia Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.0% alc., $27. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Very savory aromas of dark cherry and raspberry, spice and underbrush with a hint of floral perfume. Light to mid weight flavors of cherry and raspberry in an elegant style with balanced tannins and good finishing fruit goodness. A bit shallow on the attack but bright and refreshing. Score: 88. 2010 Evesham Wood Mahonia Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.2% alc., 100 cases, $30. Retro Evesham Wood label. Old vines planted on volcanic soil. Aged in 20% new French oak. · Moderately deep reddish-purple color in the glass. Very unique nose offering aromas of black stone fruits, spice and violets. 2009 Evesham Wood Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.0% alc., 1,650 cases, $14.79 (full retail $18). Produced from sustainably grown grapes in non-irrigated vineyards (Illahe, Eola Springs, Hidden Rocks and Mahonia). Aged 11 months in 10% new French oak barrels. Unfiltered. · Light in color with a reddish hue. Good aroma volume of strawberries, cherries, sandalwood and dried red rose petals. Tasty core of red berries, red cherries and red plums with a respectable mid palate attack. Elegantly styled and forward drinking with a cherry-filled and refreshing finish. 2007 Daedalus Cellars Willamette Valley Pinot Gris 13.6% alc., screw cap. Tall Alsatian bottle. From four vineyards (Carabella, Croft, Mahona and Murto) cropped to 2 tons per acre. Fermented with five different yeasts in 50% stainless steel and 50% neutral oak. · Rather intense aromas of pear, baking spices and almonds.
