Aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Shy, but pleasant aromas of cherry and woodshed. Soft and velvety in the mouth with a modestly concentrated core of cherry and cranberry fruits framed by a woody thread. Easy to drink, with well-concealed tannins and a short finish. Score: 88. 2014 Cyprus Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 13.8% alc., pH 3.54, TA 0.68, 766 cases, $30. Sourced from Hurst vineyard located in the Sebastopol Hills of the Russian River Valley. Goldridge soil. Feral primary and malolactic fermentations. Aged 11 months on the lees in French oak barrels, 33% new. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Cordial aromas of red cherry and red berry with a hint of spice and cola typical of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. 2014 Pellegrini Hurst Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 14.4% alc., $50. · Light garnet color in the glass. The aromas of spice cabinet dried herbs and cherry draw you in. Elegant in composure, with lighter weighted flavors of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry set off with appealing spice. 2013 Pellegrini Hurst Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 14.4% alc., pH 3.75, TA 0.53, 160 cases, $45. Vineyard is located in the far western reaches of Sebastopol. 100% Pommard clone. Aged 14 months in 100% French oak barrels, 30% new. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Enticing scents of black cherry, kirsch, flower shop and the slightest oak. Impressive roundness and polish, with mid weight plus flavors of succulent dark fruits. The silky texture really stands out in this special wine that is thoroughly enchanting. Score: 93-94. 2012 Spell Nichole’s Blend Sonoma County Pinot Noir 14.3% alc., pH 3.70, TA 0.59, 902 cases, $39. A blend of grapes from Lorenzo, Hurst, DeVoto, Marimar, Terre de Promissio and Alder Springs vineyards. Aged in 25% new, 25% once used, and 50% older French oak barrels. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of cherry cobbler, raspberry coulis and baking spices. Elegant in the mouth with tangy acidity, featuring black cherry and raspberry flavors. Pleasant, with modest tannins and easy approachability. 2012 Les Voleurs Hurst Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., pH 3.70, TA 0.65, 46 cases, $45. The vineyard is southwest of Sebastopol. Clones 115 and 777 planted in Goldridge soil. 5-day cold soak, fermented with 30% whole clusters using native yeasts. Aged in neutral French oak barrels with regular lees stirring. · Light garnet in color in the glass. Enticing aromas of cherry, baking spices, sandalwood and flinty minerality. Aims to please with a seamless presence on the palate, featuring flavors of strawberry, cherry, Moroccan spices and sandalwood. The tannins are very suave and the acidity elevates the refreshment level. Even better later in the day when tasted from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Score: 91. 2011 Bailiwick Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 14.6% alc., 700 cases, pH 3.68, TA 0.58, $28. Sourced from four highly regarded vineyards (RLR, Moore Ranch, Dutton-Lorenzo, and Hurst). Clones 113, 114, 115, 667, 777 and Pommard. 100% de-stemmed, several week post-fermentation maceration, aged 17 months in 37% new French oak barrels. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of fresh Bing cherries, baking spices and sandalwood spring from the glass. Delicious mid weight black cherry core that is thoroughly satisfying.
