Fermented in stainless steel. · Moderate salmon color in the glass. Nicely perfumed with scents of strawberry, blood orange and yellow apple. Crisp in the mouth, with flavors of strawberry, cherry Sunburst candy, blood orange and watermelon, an added hint of herbs, finishing with a good cut of acidity on the thoroughly dry finish. 2015 Brooks Crannell Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 13.50% alc., pH 3.66, TA 0.59, $48. Vines planted in 1984 in volcanic Jory and Nekia soils. Pommard, 115, 777 and 667 clones. Average harvest Brix 24.0º. Native fermentation, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Cross-flow filtered. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. Haunting aromas of black cherry, spice and cedary oak. A savory earthiness and woodiness underlines the essence of dark cherry and blackberry fruits. 2014 Brooks Crannell Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills Oregon Pinot Noir 13.5% alc., pH 3.45, TA 0.60, 300 cases, $48. Vineyard planted in 1984 at 550 feet elevation in volcanic basalt soil. 75% 115 and 25% Pommard. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Cross-flow filtered. · Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of dark red cherries and berries and rose petal arrive over time in the glass. Light to mid weight in style, with a charge of black cherry and raspberry fruits underlain with a touch of smoky oak. Jory and Nekia soils - well-drained, volcanic basalt from ancient lava flows. Vineyard planted in 1984 at 550 feet elevation. Native yeast fermentation, aged 18 months in French oak barrels. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Engaging aromas of cherry, dusty earth, ground savory and white pepper. Delicious pie cherry core wrapped around suave tannins and accented with a kiss of oak. The flavor of this wine really hits home and the glorious cherry-driven finish seems to last a minute. 2012 Harper Voit Surlie Willamette Valley Pinot Blanc 13.6% alc., 225 cases, $20. Crannell and Meredith Mitchell vineyards. Barrel fermented and age sur lie. · Very light golden yellow color and clear in the glass. Highly aromatic with effusive aromas of baked apple, Limoncello, pear, pastry cream and lees. Delicious flavors of apple, pear and citrus, finishing long with a bright green apple note and palate cleansing acidity. Pinot Blanc can be watery and uninspired, but this wine is everything but, possessing nuance, body and flair. One of the best Pinot Blancs I have experienced from Oregon. Score: 91.
