2012 Benovia Fort Ross-Seaview Chardonnay

14.2% alc., $48. If you are a fan of Marcassin Chardonnay, note that this wine is sourced from the same 15 to 20 year-old Dijon vines on the Three Sisters Vineyard owned by the Martinelli family, and formerly used by Marcassin for years for their Three Sisters Chardonnay. The vineyard is adjacent Marcassin Vineyard on the West Sonoma Coast. 100% malolactic fermentation, aged in 40% new French oak, unfiltered. · Light golden straw color in the glass. A classy wine with aromas of lemongrass, citrus, spice, poached pear and floral goodness. A delicious wine with flavors echoing the aromas, and offering noticeable attack and finish. Oak adds a subtle note of caramel and brioche. There is good tension provided by citrus-fueled acidity, and some textural interest. A connoisseur's Chardonnay. Score: 93. 2010 Benovia Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

70 cases from 3 Sisters Vineyard owned by the Martinelli Family, which previously supplied fruit to Marcassin. Whole cluster pressed and fermented with indigenous yeast. 100% MLF. Aged 16 months in 30% new French oak. · Aromas of fresh green apple, citrus and pear. The flavors echo the nose. Bright and crisp with nicely integrated oak. Very good. 2010 Martinelli Three Sisters Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.85, TA 0.59. 1100 feet elevation on average, south and east aspect, 0-35% slope, clones Pommard, 115 and 777 on 101-14 and 3309 rootstocks, Josephine and Goldridge soils. Average Brix 23.8º, 100% whole cluster, aged 10 months in 57% new French oak. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Effusive aromas of black cherries and black raspberries with generous notes of toasty oak. Oak-dominated core of plush, sappy dark red and black fruits with a highly seductive, velvety mouth feel.
