Jim and Jackie Reuling own a 14.4-acre Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyard in Forestville in the Sonoma Coast appellation. The vineyard was planted in 2003 in conjunction with Peter Michael Winery using three selections: Calera and two different "suitcase" selections from the Vosne Romanee region of Burgundy. The grapes were the source of Peter Michael La Caprice Pinot Noir in 2007 and 2008, but beginning in 2009, Le Caprice was sourced from Peter Michael's Seaview Estate Vineyard which came into production. An adjacent parcel of Chardonnay planted to a selection from Montrachet Vineyard in Burgundy has been the source of one of Aubert's outstanding bottlings.
The winemaker and vineyard manager is Matt Taylor who formerly worked at Araujo and is a proponent of biodynamic farming.
The first Reuling Vineyard Pinot Noir was released in the 2011 vintage along with a Rosé. A Reuling Chardonnay is planned for 2014.

2014 Reuling Vineyard Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
13.8% alc., pH 3.46, TA 0.60, 250 cases, $70. Harvest
Brix 23.6º. Whole cluster pressed to barrel, 100% barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged for 10 months
in 100% French oak barrels, 33% new and 66% used.

Light golden yellow color in the glass. The aromas of
petrichor, pear and hazelnut oil are quite alluring. A complex palate offers tastes of lemon, pear, subtle tropical
fruits, honeyed nuts and creme caramel. Wonderful balance, with a slightly viscous and softly comforting
mouthfeel, along with a gentle, sleek and lengthy finish.

Reuling clone ‘L’ 60% whole cluster, Calera clone 30% whole
cluster and Reuling clone ‘R’ 10% whole cluster. Native yeasts.
Aged 10 months in French oak barrels, 30% new and 70% used.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. This wine was
evaluated over a day’s time, requiring the additional time to
achieve expression. Welcoming aromas of black cherry, dried
rose petal, spice, toasted hazelnuts, and sandalwood. Impressive
attack and finishing intensity of black cherry cola flavor with hints
of spice and toast. A sophisticated wine with well-managed fine
grain tannins and the structure and balance to satisfy for years to
come. The finish is striking in length. This wine is only hinting at
its full potential now and deserves more time in bottle.

cluster pressed to barrel, native yeast fermentations, barrel fermented. Aged 10 months in French oak barrels,
35% new.

Light golden yellow color in the glass. Delicate aromas of lemon oil, nut oil, brioche, and petrichor.
On the palate, the citrus, white peach and honey flavors are vivid, accented with a flattering note of toasty oak.
A bright vein of acidity brings a refreshing bent to the overall experience. The wine leaves a lemon butter,
saline-imbued finishing sensation that is mouthwatering, and calls for another sip.
Score: 93.

clone 60% whole cluster, Calera clone 30% whole cluster, and Reuling
“R” clone 30% whole cluster. No cold soak. The 3 clones were
fermented in separate tanks. 100% native yeasts. Aged 10 months in
100% French oak barrels, 33% new.

Medium reddish purple hue in the
glass. A high-class wine that offers appealing aromas of cherries, dried
rose petal and spice. Mid weight flavors of black cherry, black raspberry,
spice and earth are very polished. The fruit fills the mouth with layers of
goodness, and persists through a satisfying oak-kissed black cherry
finish. Great harmony in this wine that has the structure and balance to
age. Even better the following day from a previously opened and recorked
bottle.

0.56, 350 cases, $70. From 2.2 acres of Chardonnay planted to a clone from
the Montrachet vineyard in Burgundy that has been dubbed “The Reuling
Clone.” Whole cluster pressed to barrel, native yeast fermentation, and aging
10 months in 50% new and 50% used French oak barrels.

Moderately light
golden yellow color in the glass. A classical, French white Burgundy styled wine
with aromas of lemon, lime, green apple, petrichor and toast. Discreet fruit
flavors of lemon curd and white-fleshed fruits with complimentary smoky oak in
the background. The wine has sound mineral-inflected acidity and proper
balance to age.
Score: 92.

full-bodied flavors of black cherry, black raspberry, cassis and spice. A big wine with a generous backbone of
tannin, yet still juicy and enticing with an intense fruit-driven finish. A serious wine with long term expectations.

cases, $70. 25% whole cluster. Aged 10 months in 40% new Remond French oak barrels.
Unfined and unfiltered.

Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Bright
aromas of fresh black cherries, spice and refined oak. Delicious mid weight
essence of dark stone fruits with a hint of cola, clove and black raspberry.
Gentle tannins and a velvety texture make for easy drink ability. The appealing
soft mouth feel is a trade off for lower acidity. Reminds me of a Volnay.
Very good.
