Victoria De Crescenzo and winemaker Russell Bevan enjoyed wine together when they started dating in 1995 in Iowa. They moved to Minneapolis and fell in with a group of wine lovers and started taking regular trips to California wine regions. The pair were so inspired by winemakers, they searched for property for three years in their native California. They finally found their dream home on eight acres of land in Bennett Valley, just a few miles from where Russell grew up.
Today, Bevan Cellars offers Cabernet Sauvignon, and Proprietary Red from Napa Valley, Syrah from Bennett Valley, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Sta. Rita Hills, and Sauvignon Blanc from Bennett Valley.
The winery is not open to the public, but tasting is available by appointment at winemaking facility. The wines are sold primarily through a mailing list with some wines available on the website.

2016 Bevan Cellars Ritchie Vineyard Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Moderately dark
golden yellow with a light apricot hue in the glass. Aromas of ash, tobacco and white pepper with no fruit
showing up over time. Viscous in the mouth with a richness of ripe flavors including lemon curd, pineapple, ripe
apricot, and tropical fruits. Clearly, the fruit was left hanging a long time. Oak-driven flavors of toast and smoke
intrude. Somewhat heavy in the mouth, lacking vibrancy, and slightly hot on the finish. No vineyard typicality in
this version.

2014 Bevan Cellars Ritchie Vineyard Russian River Valley Chardonnay
14.6% alc., $65.

Moderate golden
yellow color in the glass. Heavily toasted oak dominates the nose which adds aromas of buttery brioche and
petrol. Ripely fruited, with flavors of yellow citrus and stone fruits, salted caramel and toast in a full, well-oaked
style that made California Chardonnay both famous and infamous. The wine sports a rich and lush mouthfeel
and satisfying cut of steely acidity on the finish.

2014 Bevan Cellars Rita’s Crown Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
14.3% alc., $75.

Moderately dark
reddish purple color in the glass. The nose offers a shy assemblage of dark fruits backed by toasty oak and the
slightest hint of volatile acidity. Full-bodied on the palate, with flavors of black raspberry, blackberry and cassis.
The mouthfeel is plush and velvety, the oak is deftly integrated, and the fruit-driven finish satisfies. Still shy
aromatically the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, with the velvety texture and
glorious fruit still impressive.
Score: 91.

2014 Bevan Cellars Summit 1376’ Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
14.6% alc., $75.

Dark reddish purple color in the glass. Engaging
aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and spice with less oak in put
than the 2114’ bottling. An explosion of purple and black fruits
greet the palate, along with complimentary oak-driven notes of
dark chocolate and caramel, yet the hedonistic load of sappy fruit
is tempered by firm tannins. This wine is not for the timid and is
about as big as Pinot Noir gets. When tasted the following day
from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, the spectacular
charge of fruit stood out and the oak overlay had tempered
further. This wine is not my preferred type of Pinot Noir, but it is
very well done in this style.

2014 Bevan Cellars Summit 2114’ Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Moderately dark reddish
purple color in the glass. Full-bodied and luscious, with aromas and flavors of black fruits, dark chocolate and
espresso. The fruit is almost overwhelming, but is tamed by balanced tannins and proper acidity. Rather
monotone without nuance at present, but a big and bold expression of Pinot Noir. More open and giving the
following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle indicating some cellaring is advisable.
Score: 90.
