Philip Krumal and partner Michael Dilsaver own a unique vineyard and lodging high on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Atascadero. 300 acres and a residence were purchased a few years ago. The residence was converted into an Inn consisting of three elegant suites furnished in Spanish-themed furniture from Mexico. A gourmet breakfast is served in the large kitchen/dining room or on one of the patios overlooking both ocean and mountain views. The Inn is only a 20-minute drive from the town of Atascadero, but it is like another world with exceptional beauty and tranquility.
A 7-acre Pinot Noir vineyard has been planted adjacent to the Inn on a well-drained hillside at 2,200 feet. Several clones are planted including Pommard 4 and 5, 2A, 23, 667, 777 and HMR. Philip learned his winegrowing and winemaking from Marc Goldberg of Windward Vineyard.
The wine is sold through a mailing list. 805-461-0675. A tasting room is located in downtown Paso Robles.

2018. Estate vineyard is planted in the southern Santa Lucia Highlands mountains at 2000 feet elevation, a few
miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Winemaker Philip Krumal crafts his wines under the mentorship of
winemaker Marc Goldberg and the inspiration of Yvonne Rich.

Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. The
offers aromas of earth, potpourri, spice box and cigar smoke. Full bodied in the mouth, featuring generous
flavors of black grape, black raspberry spiced with vanilla. Very agreeable, with a velvety texture, integrated
tannins, appropriate oak input, and some finish. Reminds me of Meiomi Pinot Noir but better.

Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Shy dark fruit aromas along with oak spice and
barrel notes. Very plush in the mouth in a mid weight plus style, with flavors of boysenberry and blackberry.
The vanilla note found in the regular bottling shows up here as well. Big, ripe and boisterous, yet the tannins
are restrained, the fruit is bright and not jammy, and oak adds agreeable highlights. A little more enjoyable
when tasted the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Not my preferred style, but will
find a good number of fans.

Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Ripe fruit
aromas of dusty black cherry and blackberry embellished with toasty oak. Soft, smooth and lush on the palate,
featuring a middleweight core of spiced black fruits lifted by well-behaved acidity and supported by structured
tannins. The finish is generous, although some oak char and tannin infuse the finish.

but pleasing perfume of blackberry with added notes of piney oak, earth
and vanilla. Rather bombastic and broad in the mouth with good attack,
length and finishing persistence. Very like able, with balanced tannins
and good juiciness. Even better when sampled the following day from a
previously opened and re-corked bottle.

Central Coast. Clones are 115, 667, Pommard 4 and 5, and HRM (Hoffman Mountain Ranch).

reddish purple color in the glass. The nose offers both complexity and depth, with aromas of cherry, raspberry,
dried herbs and sweet oak. Middleweight styled, with forward flavors of cherry and dark red berries. Nicely
composed and pleasant with balanced tannins and deft oak integration.

of cherry coulis and oak vanillin. More attack and concentration, with a dark fruit profile framed by filigree
tannins. Still a bit reticent and primary, yet showing great potential, with some length on the sappy-fruited finish.

Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of black raspberry, forest floor and nutty oak unfold
slowly in the glass. Delicious mid weight plus core of well-ripened dark berry fruits with a supportive note of
oak. The fruit really sparkles with an aggressive mid palate attack and expansive finish. Modest tannins allow
for enjoyment now, although this wine was even more enjoyable the following day from a previously opened
and re-corked bottle.

even think about drinking this wine now without decanting.
When tasted a day after opening from a decanted bottle, the
wine was glorious with hi-tone aromas of dark berries and spice.
Robust, yet velvety on the palate, with waves of boysenberry, blackberry,
cola and exotic spice flavors that are perfectly complimented by oak.
Beautifully balanced, with amazing fruit expression only possible in
California. This special wine will excel with even more over time in the
cellar.
