A mix of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. Aromas of black cherry, spice and fertile earth lead off. 2017 Siduri Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.48, TA 0.58, $35, screw cap. A blend of 12 vineyard sites. Fermented and aged separately in French oak barrels, 30% new. Married in tank after 8 months in barrel and then returned to barrels to finish aging. · Moderately dark garnet color in the glass. Enviable aromas of dark fruits, wilted rose, pepper and mulch. The mid weight core of black cherry and blackberry fruit is expansive in the mouth, holding on with vigor through the finish. 14.1% alc., $40, screw cap. Sourced from three vineyards. 4-day cold soak, aged 15 months in French oak barrels, 35% new. · Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Revealing aromas of red cherry and berry, spice and toast. Nicely composed and ready to roll now, with middleweight flavors of red cherry, red raspberry and baking spices. 2017 Siduri Edmeades Vineyard Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

13.7% alc., $50, screw cap. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. Persistent aromas of darker cherry and sous-bois. More power, intensity and finish in a mid weight plus style featuring flavors of plum, pomegranate and a citric thread. A good tannic backbone provides balance. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels, 30% new. · Moderate garnet color in the glass. Clean and fresh aromas of blackberry, blueberry-pomegranate and spice. Saucy, fat and lush flavors of black raspberry, blackberry and pomegranate. The gregarious fruit makes an impression on the mid palate and finish. Aged 9 months in French oak barrels, 54% new. · Dark garnet color in the glass. The nose offers primarily grounded aromas of mulch and potpourri with only hints of black cherry and vanilla. Full-bodied flavors of blackberry, black raspberry and cassis in a fat, saucy, lush style with modest tannins, a silken texture, and well-integrated alcohol. 2016 Siduri Rosella’s Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

Aromas of turned earth, oak cask and black cherry. A muscular, full-bodied style offering thick flavors of dark red and black cherry, blackberry, black tea, and espresso. There is sprightly acidity that keeps the fruit load upbeat. A blend of fruit from multiple vineyards. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. A complex nose leads off with aromas of blackberry, cassis, wine cave, floral notes and a hint of baked apple. Wellendowed with ripened purple and black berry fruits. Robust, yet vibrant, with matched tannins, complimentary barrel accents, and a modest sweet-fruited finish. This wine could easily be mistaken as one from California. Score: 89. No malolactic fermentation. · Moderate golden yellow color and clear in the glass. Flinty, struck match aromas accompany scents of peach, dried herbs and almond. Leading off are bright aromas of cherry, cranberry and sandalwood. Juicy and pleasing on the palate with an oak-kissed cherry core. Aromas of black raspberry, purple rose, nutmeg and vanilla arrive with more vividness over time in the glass. Mid weight plus flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and blackberry in an intensely fruit-driven styled wine with a satiny mouthfeel and a bold charge of ripe fruit on the slightly astringent finish. Intriguing aromas of muddled black cherry and loamy earth. Rather bold, but refined, in a mid weight plus style with highly flavorful notes of earthy plum and black raspberry back by immersed tannins. A satiny texture and persistent finish add to the appeal. There is definitely terroir at work in this individualistic wine but not necessarily in a favored way. Aromas of dusty black cherry, dark raspberry, savory herbs and smoke. The mid weight purple and black fruits are framed by substantial tannins. A brambly herb and earthy mountain character runs through this wine that is more savory than fruity. Aggressive onslaught of smoky black cherry and blackberry fruits in a ultra ripe style that has a delicious juiciness. There are enough tannins and acidity to harness the fruit load and the alcohol is submerged, so the wine touts commendable balance. Pinot purists will be turned off by the enormity of the bombastic fruit, but the wine will delight others who cherish luscious, sappy fruit. Totally unique among the Siduri lineup. Score: 90. Shy, but pleasant scent of cherry, ripe berry and dried herbs that builds in aromatic intensity over time in the glass. Intense, mouth filling attack of black raspberry, blackberry and cassis flavors that really alert the senses. The tannins hold the fruit in check and the fruit-filled finish is noticeably generous. Brooding aromas of fertile earth, black cherry and ripe dark berries. A big boy wine with an exuberant load of fruit extract that captivates with its intensity and length. Mature tannins provide a good frame. A dreamy wine with a soothing texture that is built for aging. My only nit would be the sense of alcohol if you look for it. Score: 93. 2015 Siduri Zena Crown Vineyard Eola-Amity Hills Oregon Pinot Noir

14.4% alc., 219 cases, $70, screwcap. Release October 2017. Inaugural release from this vineyard. Both block and barrel selection. · Moderately light ruby red color in the glass. Deep, dark fruit aromas including black cherry and blackberry with a hint of freshly turned earth and a bit of floral delight. Velvety in the mouth, with an intensely fruited core of sweet purple and black fruits that are expansive in the mouth and through the finish. (screw cap) 21 months · An impressive wine that really satisfies on the richly appointed palate. Aromas and flavors of ripe cherries and a hint of vanilla impress on the attack and extremely long finish. The fruit really has traction and there is a good grip of acidity to lift the fruit load. Pleasant, but shy aromas of yellow peach and white grape. A tasty core of poached pear and peach fruit is downgraded by an herbal, vitamin note. The wine has bright acidity and a dry finish. A luscious, very approachable wine that was still delightful the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle when a bit of spice showed up and the aromatics were more giving. Good energy from vibrant acidity, but the aggressive fruit tannins overwhelm the boisterous, well-ripened dark cherry fruit. 2013 Siduri Cargasacchi Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

14.5% alc., pH 3.32, TA 0.78, 201 cases, $54. I found this to be a curious wine with a noticeable departure from Cargasacchi wines I have sampled over the years. Adam Lee told me he used 15% whole cluster, but for some reason the stems really stood out in this wine. It is the highest acid Pinot Noir for Siduri in 2013 and the reason for using stems to bring down the strength of the acid. Many wine writers and consumers have liked it, while others have not. Although I am generally a fan of whole cluster wines, I am in the not group. You can decide for yourself. · Moderate light garnet color in the glass. Aromas of raspberry, strawberry, smoke and woody stem lead to a light to mid weight core of red and black raspberry and blueberry fruits with a floral, spicy undertone. 2013 Siduri Pisoni Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

14.9% alc., 450 cases, $60, screwcap. High yields but many berries in each cluster created an ideal situation. Grapes were picked over a month. A good percentage of whole clusters were used in the fermentation as the clusters had very ripe stems. 18 barrels (34% of the lot) were selected for this wine which includes barrels from the Big Block, Hermanos, and Tina’s sections of the vineyard. · Dark reddish purple color in the glass. Typical Pisoni with a rich load of purple and black berry fruits that balance the wine’s broad shoulders of tannins. The boldest wine in the Siduri lineup with a remarkable palate-staining, grand cru finish. The penetrating energy of the wine is striking. When I left a re-corked bottle for 4 days and re-tasted it, I was astonished by its brilliance. The tannins had thoroughly melded and the wine was all velvet, highly flavorful, and I experienced stars. This vineyard is truly the source of one of California’s greatest Pinot Noirs. Score: 96. Oak-kissed blackberry, cassis and vanilla aromas. Vivid and juicy on the palate, with a packed and stacked complement of sweet black cherry and blackberry fruits underlain with a good cut of acidity and backed by modest tannins. 2012 Siduri Shaw Mountain Vineyard Pinot Noir

14.35% alc., pH 3.55, TA 0.62, 75 cases, $39. Vineyard owned by Ralph and Marlene Shaw and managed by Bob Grimes. The vineyard has been inconsistent over the past dozen years, but was stellar in 2012. Aged in 66% new French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Interesting aromas of dark berries and plums with hints of pine forest, wood box, and tea leaf. Discreetly concentrated and flavorful exhibiting an array of fruits including ripe strawberry, black raspberry and pomegranate. The oak is supportive but not intrusive, the tannins are modest and the finish has a burst of palate cleansing acidity. I like this wine for its acid-driven vigor. Score: 88. 2012 Siduri Arbre Vert Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

14.1% alc., 399 cases, $42. Released April 2014. · Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. A festival of earth-kissed cherry fruit on the nose and palate with riffs of clove and citrus, opening slowly over time in the glass. Discreetly concentrated, softly textured and harmonious, with an oak skirt showing. Some length in the mouth and finish with a little grip of tannin and citrus on the finish. Still not very showy the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. Definitely needs another 6 to 12 months in bottle for most enjoyment. Score: 89. 2012 Siduri Hawk’s View Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

The most flamboyant and interesting nose of the Oregon offerings with aromas of black cherry, sassafras, forest floor and graham. Pleasing flavors of black cherry, black raspberry with good fullness and polish on the palate. Impressive persistence on the fruit-filled finish which leaves a modest amount of tannins in its wake. When tasted the following day from a previously opened and recorked bottle, this was clearly my favorite with the most memorable finish of the 2012 Oregon offerings. Will only improve in the cellar. 2012 Siduri Muirfield Vineyard Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

The nose is inviting with deep aromas of darker cherries and berries, forest floor and savory highlights. Middleweight core of black cherry fruit which is nicely ripened and bright. Fairly bold with a substantial tannic backbone and a juicy finish with hints of citrus and irondriven minerality. About the same the following day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle. 2012 Siduri Bucher Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

13.69% alc., pH 3.73, TA 0.60, 100 cases, $44. Inaugural release from this vineyard located on Westside Road. Owned by John and Diane Bucher, the Bucher Vineyard is on a hillside with various aspects. Grapes were harvested at moderate levels of sugar over a two week window. The lots were fermented separately. Half of the wine came from the newest section of the vineyard (“Forklift” Block) which produced the wine with the greatest concentration and interest. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Intense aromas of black cherries, grilled peach and toasty oak. Succulent and sappy on the palate with plenty of black cherry goodness, carrying a tarry, earthy, even barnyard undertone that Burgundy lovers may relish. Easy to drink, with finishing intensity. 2012 Siduri Van Der Kamp Vineyard Sonoma Mountain Pinot Noir

14.6% alc., 207 cases, $44. Release May 2014. · Medium reddish purple color in the glass. The nose unfolds slowly in the glass to reveal bright aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, tea and wet leaves. Very tasty, with a classy core of black cherry, blueberry and pomegranate fruits backed by sweet oak. The tannins are firm but refined and the finish is spectacularly long. 14.9% alc., 257 cases, $48. Release May 2014. 3-acre site planted in Goldridge soil tucked just behind Kistler Winery. Harvest Brix 23.2º-24.2º. 11 out of 29 barrels chosen for the final wine. About 35% new French oak. · Dark reddish purple color in the glass. Complex nose with aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, briar, pine, spice rub, and others I could not pinpoint. Full-bodied, sweet and sappy, with a plethora of black fruits. Tremendous luscious fruit intensity with matched tannins. Complimentary oak in the background. 14.69% alc., pH 3.53, TA 0.68, 211 cases, $52. 100% clone 115. Vineyard picked in two sections giving a mix of flavor profiles. Unfined and unfiltered. · Dark reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose is quite typical of this vineyard with aromas of black berry and stone fruits, black currant, mesquite, iron and earth. Plush, soft, rich and inviting on the palate, this wine offers a mouthful of earth-kissed purple and black fruits perfectly matched to ripe tannins. The intense, grandiose, and aromatic finish is full of juicy fruit pleasure. Wines from this vineyard can be somewhat animale in character and brooding, but this wine sparkles with freshness and vibrancy as well as offering inviting finesse with power. Each section was treated differently, using whole clusters on some but not on others, adding yeast to the must on some, but not on others, etc. The ultimate blend includes five out of the six sections. Clones are Pommard, 2A, 777, 115 and 114. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Lovely aromas of fresh cherry pie glaze, baking spices and sandalwood. The delicious and seductive core of juicy iced cherry and red berry flavors is wrapped in gossamer tannins. Beautifully composed and harmonious with a refreshing finish of cherry goodness. Each clone (943, 23, 777 and Pommard) was fermented individually, with winemaking treatment varying depending on the fruit condition. A bit more whole cluster than in previous years. Unfined and unfiltered. · Moderately dark reddishpurple color in the glass. Nicely perfumed with aromas of Bing cherries, red rose petals and potpourri. Mouth watering flavors of peak-ripened fruits including black cherry, black raspberry and strawberry. Very smooth and seductive on the palate with welcoming concentration, finishing with a pleasing burst of robust fruit flavor. A selection of 39% of the barrels for the final wine. 5 barrels of Pommard, 3 barrels each of Mt Eden and 114. · Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Very reticent, but shows tremendous potential. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry jam and sassafras. Mid weight flavors of black raspberry, black cherry and pomegranate with an earthy, leathery undertow. Very classy fruit with well managed tannins and admirable balance. Unfined and unfiltered. · Dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Intoxicating aromas of dark red and black cherry berry mix with a hint of oak vanillin. Delicious, intense flavors of dark berries and black plums, nicely spiced with a lush, long finish. The darkest fruited, most tannic, and most powerful wine in the 2012 Siduri lineup. Surprisingly concentrated and flavorful considering the very low alcohol (according to Adam, "This is one of the leanest Pinot Noirs at 12.9% alcohol we have ever made, and yet it is rich and concentrated"). 235 cases, $48. Adjacent Garys’ Vineyard but rows are oriented differently so the winds pass through the vineyard more evenly and because it is more fertile, the vines are planted closer together. Fourth leaf. Pisoni selection, and 667. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of dark currants, ripe plum and brandied raisins. Delicious and harmonious, with gorgeous flavors of black plum and blackberries with a note of spice and citrus in the background. The fruit really sparkles in this wine and lasts and lasts on the finish that offers a teasing hint of spice and mocha. Spectacular the following day from a previously opened and closed bottle showing an Elvis on velvet mouth feel. Kelley Parsons farms this vineyard along with vineyard manager Jim Pratt, and she is also a noted tomato grower in the area. · Medium reddish-purple color in the glass. Vibrant, expressive nose showing aromas of berries on the vine, cherry pie and spice. A wowzer in the mouth with a gargantuan blast of very ripe and lush cherry and raspberry fruit that holds your attention on the huge finish. On the palate, the layers of flashy cherry and raspberry fruit really draw your attention and hold it through a finish like a three hour movie you don’t want to end. The fruit really emerges with conviction as the wine is swirled in the glass over time. Very small crop, 20% whole cluster. Indigenous yeast fermentations. Only 3 out of 5 barrels made the cut and 2 of the barrels were aged in new French oak. · Light reddish color in the glass. Very reticent nose with extremely shy aromas of cherries and spice. Cherry fruit is featured with a confected gum drop and pastry overlay, but with some unusual, indescribable flavors. Darker fruited on the palate with subtle oak in the background, displaying some very pretty fruit that is still introverted. 14.2% alc., 241 cases, $50. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose is closed for business with very muted aromas of dark stone fruits and oak. Rather closed, uninspiring and earthy now with a linear display of dark stone fruits in a medium weighted style. Nicely crafted with well-behaved tannins, a good acid spine, and a silk and satin texture, but just isn’t offering much fruit flavor interest at this time. Cellar this one for a good year. Good (+). The aromatics are stunning with bright aromas of cherry pie glaze, fresh berries, tea leaf and spice. Perfectly ripe fruit offered in an elegant display of delicious dark red cherries and berries with a hint of cherry cola. Silky with perfectly matched tannins. 14.2% alc., 395 cases, $50. Six clones separately fermented and barrel aged. The ultimate blend was 43% clone 23, 31% clone 114, 19% clone 2A and 7% clone 777. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. · Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. The nose features redder fruits with a nice whiff of spice and sandalwood. Very typical for this vineyard with a nicely spiced black cherry flavor, good crispness, and fine, dusty tannins. Oak adds a complimentary accent. In two words, very charming. 14.1% alc. 582 cases, $50. · Moderately dark reddish-purple color in the glass. This wine is showing the most oak now both on the nose and palate. Aromas of blackberries, boysenberries and coffee. Flavors of plum, dark berries, sassafras and cola with some oak in the background. Very soft in the mouth with notable echo of scent and fruit on the finish. A lip smacker with oodles of fruit that saturates the palate and persists on the finish with a clinging vengeance. Moderately light in weight, with attractive, slightly sweet flavors of dark strawberries and raspberries. Bright acidity with soft tannins that arrive with a rush on the dry finish. Very tasty, penetrating and attention-getting dark red fruit core set off by perfectly balanced acids and tannins. The restrained oak is a perfect compliment. Very juicy with a fruity persistence on the bright finish. There are not many appellation wines from the Sta. Rita Hills and this is the best I have ever tasted. The wine really shows off the bright acidity and well-proportioned tannic structure that are typical of the wines of this appellation. Tasted twice with the same results. This is consistently one of Siduri’s most elegant bottlings. 13 barrels out of 38 were chosen for this vineyard-designated wine. · A demurely colored and lighter weighted wine of great finesse with oak-kissed strawberries and cherries running throughout. 2006 Siduri Rosella’s Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

14.1% alc., 490 cases, $45. Juice was bled off to concentrate the wine, more whole clusters were used than normal, and strict barrel selection was employed. A blend of Pisoni clone, Pommard clone and Dijon clones 777 and 828 aged 10 months in 80% new French oak. · Lovely aromas of black raspberry, plum jam, oak and green tea. Bright, tantalizing and full-bodied blackberry fruit with an attractive earthy note and a hint of citric tang on the clean finish. The tannins and oak are beautifully reigned in. The pedigree of the fruit really shows through in this wine and it is one of the best examples of Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir I have ever tasted. 2006 Siduri Truett Nolan California Pinot Noir

14.1% alc., 192 cases, $70. This is a special wine to honor the birth of the Lee’s third child, Truett Nolan, who was born April 17, 2006. It is a blend of 50% Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir, 25% Sonatera Vineyard Pinot Noir, and 25% Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir. Barreled for 16 months. · The nose is restrained but charming offering oak-dusted black cherries and a small dose of good Pinot barnyard. Lovely red Pinot fruits are softly textured and enhanced by oak and spice. The whole package is seamless and comforting and the finish has remarkable persistence. This is a refined and restrained Pinot Noir that offers its pleasures slowly - a wine that seduces you rather than attacks you. It was still drinking beautifully the next day from a re-corked previously opened bottle portending a long life ahead. Here’s hoping the Lees keep having children.
