In 1961, John and Lena Winter resettled in Oregon from Illinois. They purchased a fruit and grain farm in the Dundee Hills. Peter and Emily Gladhart (the Winters’daughter) and their son Russell planted 12 acres of own-rooted Pinot Noir in 1990. At 525-730 ft, this south-facing vineyard benefits from cool afternoon ocean breezes that drop the evening temperatures into the 50’s.
In 1997, the owners undertook the second phase of planting on phylloxera resistant rootstocks. Total planting is now 21 acres of Pinot Noir. The vineyard is all on Jory soil and the clones are Pommard, Wädenswil, 114 and 115. The vineyard is certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture & Enology) as Sustainable and Salmon Safe.
Peter Gladhart’s daughter-in-law, Delphine Gladhart, joined the family in 2004 and has been the winemaker ever since. The wines are sold on the website.

2017 Winter’s Hill Dundee Hills Willamette Valley Rosé of Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., 185 cases, $22. Grapes
are crushed after picking and rest on the skins for a short time, then gently pressed into neutral French oak
barrels for fermentation and 6 months aging.

Moderate pinkish-red color in the glass. Aromas of red cherry,
strawberry, underbrush and a hint of toasty oak. Somewhat akin to a regular Pinot Noir, with mid weight flavors
of cherry, red berry, dried herbs, blood orange and a hint of ginger, along with a lush mouthfeel. The fruit is
striking.

Moderately light garnet color in the glass.
Exalted nose that really caught my attention with aromas
of dark cherry, purple berry and burnt tobacco. Light to
mid weight in style, with a captivating core of black cherry
fruit. Sleek and polished, seamless and revealing, with a
quenching finish that leads the drinker to take another sip. Even better
when sampled the following day from a previously opened and recorked
bottle. Quintessential Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and a great
value to boot.

winery’s flagship selection that includes 100% estate fruit.

Moderately light garnet color in the
glass. Persistent aromas of fresh strawberry, cranberry, blueberry, iron and mulling spices. Fresh
and juicy in the mouth, with charming mid weight flavors of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry.
The gossamer tannins add to the appeal as does the lengthy, lip-smacking finish.

Light garnet color in the glass. Nicely perfumed with aromas
of raspberry, cherry and toasty oak. Lighter-weighted in a teasing, demure style with flavors of cherry and red
berry. Silky, refined and feminine in character, with the slightest fine-grain tannins and some length in the
mouth. Hard to criticize, but pretty straightforward.

Moderate garnet color in the glass. Haunting aromas of dark
cherry, spice and burnt tobacco. This wine offers significantly more concentration than the 100% de-stemmed
version with a darker fruit profile, somewhat more tannins, and a very slightly astringent finish. That said, I find
it more appealing for its black cherry, spice and tobacco flavors as well as its seductive texture. I am a whole
cluster junkie and my score reflects that preference in comparison to the de-stemmed version of this wine.

A selection of the finest blocks of the estate vineyard.

Moderate garnet color in the glass. Engaging aromas of black
cherry, raspberry, spice and earthy flora. Packing plenty of
black cherry, black raspberry and spice flavors, the pretty fruit
load is reigned in by compatible tannins and acidity. The finish
is remarkably long. A classy wine built for aging that will need another
couple of years in the cellar to completely come out of its shell
(although you can drink it now). This wine is deserving of the Reserve
label.

Stemmed grapes were allowed to cold soak for 3 days before yeast inoculation. Aged 8 months in oak barrels.

Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. Discreetly concentrated, with cherry fruit at the core of the wine and
a thread of leafy herbs in the background. There is compost and barnyard aromas upon opening with some
fruit expression arriving later. The tannins are supportive, the acidity is brisk, and the herb infused cherry
essence shows up on the finish with good intent.

Moderately light ruby red color in the glass. The nose expands over time in the glass to
reveal hi-tone aromas of cherry, red berry and fertile earth. Light to mid weight in style, featuring
red cherry and berry flavors woven through with a savory thread. Fresh and expressive, and
forward drinking with a gentle but adequate tannic backbone. A reliable daily drinker.

purple grape and baking spices. Aims to please in the mouth, with an attack of vivid black cherry
and spice flavors that demands attention. Remarkable intensity, yet cohesive tannins and acidity
make for seamless drinking. The wine’s remarkable ending offers uncommon vibrancy.

Moderate garnet color
in the glass. Dramatic aromatics that excite including
scents of black cherry, black raspberry, rose petal and
exotic spices. My notes say, “Oh-man!” Equally seductive
on the palate, with mid weight unctuous flavors of black
cherry and black raspberry immersed in exotic spices.
Noticeably different texturally from the 100% de-stemmed version of
this wine with meaty, fine-grain tannins that seem to caress and elevate
the fruit. A very long, flavorful and juicy finish completes the picture. A
connoisseur’s wine.

is a warm and steep block planted to Wädenswil clone. Only second time winery has bottled 100% Wädenswil
wine.

Moderately light garnet color in the glass. The nose starts out quite savory with aromas of bramble and
dried herbs, transforming over time in the glass to a predominance of black cherry, wild strawberry, spice and
cola aromas. Light to mid weight flavors of spiced red cherry and strawberry with an earthy thread and the right
touch of oak. Nice harmony, with a deep cherry finish. This wine grows on you over time.

blocks in the Estate Vineyard. After 12 months of aging, 12 barrels were chose that best represented the 2015
vintage.

Moderate garnet color in the glass. Deep aromas of dark red cherry and berry with a bit of savory
herbs. An elegant, mid weighted style, offering the essence of well-ripened cherries and berries. Nicely
composed, with gentle tannins and a finish that impresses with its length. Both weight and weightlessness in
this wine that is still somewhat reserved and not as expressive as it probably will be.

cluster pressed within hours of harvest. Fermented slowly to dryness in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic
fermentation blocked.

Very light yellow color in the glass. A little reduction upon opening resolves over time in
the glass. Aromas of pear, grapefruit and toast. Very high-pitched on the palate with tart flavors of grapefruit
and lemon-lime. The wine finishes with a dry, soprano finish. Not particularly enjoyable on its own, this acidic
wine will show better with fried or fatty foods.

$19. Grapes are whole cluster pressed with the fruit remaining on the skins a short time to extract
color and tannins. Fermented in neutral French oak barrels.

glass. Inviting aromas of fresh crushed strawberries and wooded forest after a rain. Welcoming
body and attack, with hi-tone flavors of red berries, apple and poached pear. Noticeable fruit
intensity on the finish that is dry, crisp and vivid. Impressive.

Stemmed grapes underwent a 3-day cold soak before yeast inoculation. The wine was aged 16
months in oak barrels.

Light cherry red color in the glass. Aromas of cherry, cranberry, strawberry
and green herbs lead to a light to mid weight styled wine with flavors that echo the aromas. There
is more power than the color would suggest, and the polished texture makes for easy drinking.
Very forward, with deft oak management, and well-proportioned tannins. Quite typical of the
Dundee Hills in character.

2014 Winter’s Hill Estate Block 1 Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir
12.7% alc., 44 cases, $49. This bottling
is part of the Single Block Series began in 2006. Block 1 is part of the original planting in 1990 and consists of
own-rooted Pommard clone. It is at a lower elevation and easterly exposed so it is a cooler block that is usually
the last block of Pinot Noir harvested.

Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Shy aromas of cherry,
cranberry and turned soil. A solid, but somewhat lean wine with pleasurable cherry and blueberry flavors
infused with a savory thread of herbs. Nicely composed with good harmony and noticeable acidic verve.

finish. It reminds me of biting into a ripe, crisp apple.

vineyards. 100% de-stemmed, aged 24 months in French oak barrels,
20% new.

Moderately light cherry red color in the glass. Subdued, but
pleasing aromas of cherry and potpourri. A refined and sophisticated
bottling featuring mid weight flavors of red cherries and raspberries with
a substantial but not imposing tannic backbone and a good acidic
underbelly. Impressive intensity that lasts through a generous finish that
won’t let go. Enjoyable now, but will benefit from more time in bottle.
Much to admire.

stainless steel without barrel aging or malolactic fermentation to highlight its fruit character. The wine
was fermented three weeks until dry.

example of this underrated varietal offering refreshing aromas of golden apple, pear, lemon and
coconut and tasty flavors of green apple, pear and a hint of pineapple. Brisk, with lemon-driven
acidity, gossamer tannins and a crisp finish. True to the grape.

golden yellow color and clear in the glass. I was drawn to this wine immediately, with its interesting
aromas of fresh cut apple, tropical fruits, wax and a hint of lily. Pleasing on the slightly creamy palate,
with flavors of baked pear and apple, leading to a palate cleansing finish. The wine shows a slight
salinity to match well with oysters.

silky mouth feel, modest tannins, and a complimentary riff of oak and citrus on
the refreshing, cherry-driven finish. A delightful cherry bombast.

mouth filling, darker cherry fruit is nicely spiced, with some added hints of red berries and sweet oak. The
tannins and acidity are well balanced, and there is good intensity of red fruits on the finish. Nicely composed
and easy to like.

satisfying with especially noteworthy balance.

in 20% new French oak barrels. Estate bottled.

Light garnet color in the glass. Initially the bright aromas of
cherry, strawberry, spice and sandalwood are appealing, but they fade over time in the glass. The flavors echo
the aroma profile in a light, elegantly styled wine. More flavorful than one would expect from the color with
some green herbs (a sign of unripe fruit) showing up in the background. Some slightly astringent tannins show
up on the tart cherry finish.

tea leaf, iron and oak. Quite pleasurable on the palate with a discretely concentrated core of darker
cherries and raspberries, with a hint of red licorice and oak. Plenty of minerality in this modest wine
with appealing restraint. Very good.

nice earthy underpinning. Well-matched tannins and a long, satisfying finish.

Estate Vineyard located between Domaine Serene, Stoller Vineyards and Vista
Hills Vineyard. Clones are Pommard, Wädenswil, 114 and 115. 100% destemmed,
24-hour cold soak, inoculated yeast fermentation, aged 31 months in
20% new French oak barrels.

Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. A
fruit-driven nose that has staying power in the glass over time. Enticing aromas
of ripe cherries and raspberries with a hint of spice, briar and forest floor. Fullflavored
with appealing roundness and pitch, featuring earth-kissed black
cherries, black raspberries, and sassafras, set off by well-integrated tannins and
acidity, finishing with a rush of spicy raspberry goodness. A riper fruit profile than the 2010 vintage bottling with
more richness. Impeccable balance for aging. Hard to stop sipping this one.

barrels.

Great color of moderate reddish purple. Aged nose, offering scents of must, marzipan, cigar, decayed
stump, seasoned oak and medicinal awareness. Modest in weight, with flavors of black cherry, root beer and
white pepper. The fruit still has good freshness and intensity. Nicely balanced, with good length on the fruit-driven
finish. The tannins are noticeable yet find their place among the ripe fruit flavors that hold on to a finish
that exposes a slight hint of alcoholic warmth. Drink up.

14.1% alc., pH 3.47, 226 cases, $39. Of the 21 acres planted to Pinot Noir in
the estate vineyard between 1990 and 2000, only the Pommard clone is used in
this bottling. Barrel aging is tailored to the tannin and fruit make-up of each lot
of fermenting wine. Aged 18 months in barrel.

Subdued but pleasing aromas of
black cherries, earthy loam and forest floor. Fairly thick and imposing core of
darker cherry and berry fruit with hints of mocha and marzipan. Similar to the
regular Dundee Hills bottling but more high brow with better harmony and less
overripe tendencies. Very smoothly textured with a fresh and lively finish. Very

in the glass. Nicely composed nose that is both fruity and floral as well as spicy. A berry jubilee on the palate
with a hint of savory herbs and Provencal spices. Full-bodied, with noticeable lithe tannins and a moderately
long fruit presence on the snappy finish. Tasted later in the day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle,
the wine had lost most of its charm. I am not sure this one can stay the course. Decent (+).

That said, I find it more appealing for its black cherry, spice and tobacco flavors as well as its seductive texture. Shy aromas of cherry, cranberry and turned soil. A solid, but somewhat lean wine with pleasurable cherry and blueberry flavors infused with a savory thread of herbs. The vineyard is south facing at an elevation of 525 to 730 feet. 100% de-stemmed, 2 day cold soak, fermented in one-ton fermenters using inoculated yeast, and aged in 25% new oak (French and American). · Very ripe dark cherry flavor profile with a hint of musk, pepper and spice. 2006 Winter’s Hill Vineyard Cuvée du Vigneron Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
14.1% alc., pH 3.47, 226 cases, $39. Of the 21 acres planted to Pinot Noir in the estate vineyard between 1990 and 2000, only the Pommard clone is used in this bottling. Barrel aging is tailored to the tannin and fruit make-up of each lot of fermenting wine. Aged 18 months in barrel. · Subdued but pleasing aromas of black cherries, earthy loam and forest floor. Fairly thick and imposing core of darker cherry and berry fruit with hints of mocha and marzipan. Similar to the regular Dundee Hills bottling but more high brow with better harmony and less overripe tendencies. Very smoothly textured with a fresh and lively finish. Very good. 2006 Winter’s Hill Vineyard Reserve Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., pH 3.56, 146 cases, $45. The best six barrels of estate fruit out of 40. Aged 17 months in 50% new French oak barrels. · Dark purple in color in the glass. Nicely composed nose that is both fruity and floral as well as spicy. A berry jubilee on the palate with a hint of savory herbs and Provencal spices. Full-bodied, with noticeable lithe tannins and a moderately long fruit presence on the snappy finish. Tasted later in the day from a previously opened and re-corked bottle, the wine had lost most of its charm. I am not sure this one can stay the course. Decent (+). 2005 Winter’s Hill Vineyard Reserve Dundee Hills Oregon Pinot Noir
13.5% alc., 146 cases. The best six barrels out of forty in the 2005 vintage. · Moderately dark reddish purple color in the glass. Aromas of cigar, old wood and leather vest lead off. More fruit expression on the palate, offering delicious mid weight flavors of black cherry fruit accented with brown spice and nutty oak. Surprisingly alert, lively and highly pleasurable, with modest tannins still in action. A terrific aged Pinot Noir that will please all pinotphiles. Drink now to 2020. 2004 Winter’s Hill Vineyard Reserve
14.3% alc., 155 cases, $50. · This wine has an extraordinary nose of cherries, cola, spice and chocolate leading to a complex depth of flavors of rich red cherries, Coke, and baking spice. There is an underlying earthiness that adds to the appeal. What really wows is the caressing texture of silk and satin. The lovely spiced cherry back end lasts an eternity.
