The wine was considerably more giving when tasted the following day after opening and my review will reflect that. Aromas of purple berries, spice, pine and savory herbs engage the drinker. Crafted in a mid weight plus style, with explosive flavors of black raspberry and blackberry that find every corner of the mouth. Impeccably balanced, with agreeable tannins, gracious acidity and a noticeably long finish replete with fresh fruit. Decant if you must drink now. Score: 93. The nose is very shy initially and evolves reluctantly over time to reveal aromas of blackberry preserves, blueberries, and an appealing floral note. Mid weight flavors of blackberry, blueberry, pomegranate and Tootsie Roll with a touch of spice, backed by suave, dusty tannins and good acidity. Texturally interesting and soft in the mouth, with admirable balance, and a generous dark berry driven finish. 2010 Dutton-Goldfield Dutton Ranch Emerald Ridge Vineyard Green Valley of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 13.8% alc., pH 3.53, TA 0.62, 251 cases, $58. Planted by Steve Dutton in 1991 to an array of clones. Pommard, 2A, and Dijon 667 are included in this wine. Aged 12 months in 55% new French oak barrels. · Relatively closed, needing time and swirling to reveal the aromas of blackberry jam, black cherries and cardamom spice. Forceful and assertive in the mouth (the most full-bodied of the wines tasted), yet without weight, offering delicious flavors of fresh blackberries, black cherries and baking spices. Round and polished with a Grand Cru finish. Still showing some oak which will integrate with maturation in the bottle. An outstanding wine that is liquid nobility. Very good (++).
