Roger Roessler Wines

Brothers Richard and Roger Roessler founded Roessler Cellars in 2000. Together with talented winemakers Wells Guthrie (consulting, own label is Copain) and Scott Shapely (formerly Crushpad and Siduri Wines), they craft marvelous Pinot Noirs from appellations throughout California. I have been a fan for quite some time now. They produce four appellation wines: Red Label (Sonoma County), La Brisa (Sonoma Coast), Bluejay (Anderson Valley) and Peregrine (Sta. Rita Hills) plus multiple vineyard-designates. Total production is 6,500 cases including 16 different Pinot Noir wines and 12 vineyard-designate labels from the North Coast, Santa Barbara and Oregon.

Roger and Richard and very personable and passionate about wine. Make an effort to get to know them and their wines. The wines are sold on the website and widely distributed in fine wine shops.

In August, 2008, plans were announced to build a $6 million winery in the Petaluma Gap region of Sonoma. This will allow production to increase to 12,000 cases. This never materialized. In June, 2009, a tasting room in a Tudor style home was opened off the northwest corner of Sonoma Plaza at 380 First Street West.

Craig and Kathryn Hall of Hall wines acquired Roessler Cellars in 2010 and reincarnated the label as Walt, the maiden name of Kathryn. It is an ambitious entry into Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under the winemaking direction of Steve Leveque, who also crafts the Hall Napa Valley wines. Walt will offer 10 Pinot Noirs and 2 Chardonnays from the 2010 vintage. See Walt Wines. Roger and Richard started a new label, R2 (R Squared) with a tasting room in the town of Sonoma.

In 2016, the non-compete ended in February with the Halls, allowing Roger Roessler to re-brand his wine company, website back to Roger Roessler Wines. The new tasting room is located at 654 Broadway in the town of Sonoma.
